The She-Hulk Diaries – Marvel gets into the romance novel biz!

She-Hulk Diaries

[adrotate banner=”1″]In a move that will be entertaining for those of us who love reading comment sections filled with screaming manbabies, Marvel has announced it’s releasing some superheroine romance novels published through Hyperion (yet another company owned by Disney!) Marvel says the “novels showcase strong, smart heroines seeking happiness and love while battling cosmic evil.” Two books will constitute the first wave – The She-Hulk Diaries by Marta Acosta and Rogue Touch by Christine Woodward

The She-Hulk Diaries focuses on Jennifer Walters (aka She-Hulk) who is trying to balance climbing the corporate ladder during the day with battling super villains at night “all while trying to navigate the dating world to find a Mr. Right who might not mind a sometimes-very big and green girlfriend.”

Rogue Touch centers on the popular X-Man heroine who can absorb another heroes powers through touch. After she accidently puts her boyfriend in a coma, Rogue runs away from home. She then meets the “handsome and otherwordly Jame and sparks fly.”

Rogue finds herself caught between her superpowers and “the only man alive who seems to truly understand her.”

Hopefully these take off and suddenly the romance books outsell the actual comic books. Because I want that day to happen. It will be glorious! The tears…

If you love reading about romance novels, you have to check out Smart Bitches, Trashy Books and Dear Author, two of the best blogs in the field. Even a guy like me who doesn’t read romance novels reads those blogs.

Here is cat girl Rina Takeda fighting other cat girls

[adrotate banner=”1″]Rina Takeda has taken a break from kicking people in the face to dress as a cat girl and kick cat girls in the face. In Battlecats (バトルキャッツ), Rina plays a cat on the run and bounty hunter cats chase her down in this short about battles in the world of cats. This is part of some series of shorts that premiere on NHK in Japan and are voted on. You can read more about it on this increasingly confusing website that’s in Japanese. I honestly don’t know if this is a trailer and the short will be longer, or multipart, or what. Guess I’ll find out in a few days when this airs. Until then, we wait. And follow news of the short on twitter.

What I could figure out was the insistence that the fight work is done with no CG and no wirework. That alone will make it cool.

I guess Battlecats used to be a thing? But I have no clue what this even is or if it is related.

King Kong live on stage!

King Kong Stage
[adrotate banner=”1″]No, I’m not talking about the final scene of King Kong where he breaks free from the stage show to go on a rampage, I’m talking about a stage production of King Kong that will be happening in Melbourne in June 2013! Complete with a giant King Kong puppet, which I support because of the very tiny chance there will be a puppet apocalypse and the King Kong robot breaks free from the stage show to go on a rampage.

Five years in the making, KING KONG will feature a cast of more than 40 actors, singers, dancers and circus performers, and a team of puppeteers who will bring to life one of the most technologically advanced puppets in the world – a one-tonne, six-metre tall silverback gorilla.

The exciting score will feature modernised musical standards including I WANNA BE LOVED BY YOU, BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE A DIME and GET HAPPY from the worlds best contemporary artist, as well as dazzling choreography, traditional puppetry, breathtaking circus skills and advanced animatronics to showcase one of the most romantic and timeless love stories of our time.

The King Kong robot is made by Global Creatures, and here are some test videos of the prototype:
