Thinspiration Starving in Suburbia Lifetime

Lifetime touches on eating disorders with Starving in Suburbia! #StarvingInSuburbia

Thinspiration Starving in Suburbia Lifetime

They’re having a party under the Tree of Souls from Avatar?

Starving in Suburbia (original title: Thinspiration) is another Lifetime feature about how the internet is dangerous, with a look at those disturbing websites that promote eating disorders, bulimia, and anorexia, commonly called thinspiration sites. Honestly, this is an internet demon that I don’t mind a movie taking on, because that stuff is gross and women already have enough body issues as it is, we don’t need peer pressure sites making girls more depressed about the way they look. But the new Starving in Suburbia title makes it sound like one of those memoirs people write that try to make their boring lives sound exciting.

If this film follows the usual track, Hannah’s friend and mentor ButterflyAna will probably die, though there is a chance that Hannah has a best friend who will be the one who dies.

Tara Miele writes and directs (Huzzah, a female director!), this is her third feature (she wrote and directed 2010’s The Lake Effect and also helmed 2013’s Gone Missing)

Starving in Suburbia stars Laura Wiggins, Izabella Miko, Emma Dumont, Marcus Giamatti, Callie Thorne, and Sharon Lawrence Laura Wiggins is best known from her role on Shameless, and was also in Lifetime’s The Cheating Pact. Izabella Miko is the star of Save the Last Dance 2 (yes, there was a 2!) and was also in Coyote Ugly. Emma Dumont had a role on the cult series Bunheads and also does competitive robot building! How cool is that? Callie Thorne is best remembered for Rescue Me.

When seventeen year old Hannah stumbles upon a website about Thinspiration— an online community devoted to anorexia as a life choice — she becomes an obsessive follower of the site founder, ButterflyAna. By the time Hannah’s family realizes what is happening and get Hannah the help she needs, the disease has fully taken hold and Hannah is refusing to eat. Will this family be able to exorcise the demon of anorexia from their lives, or is it too late?

Starving in Suburbia will premiere Saturday, April 26th on Lifetime. Let’s see if hashtag #StarvingInSuburbia trends like #DeathClique did!

Crackula Goes to Hollywood

Crackula Goes to Hollywood will be crack-tacular!

You need to check out that trailer for Crackula Goes to Hollywood above! Crackula Goes to Hollywood looks fantastically amazing, and I hope the editing in the final film is done in the style of the trailer, because that’s unlike anything I have ever seen before. An Alaskan vampire with one tooth comes to Hollywood and starts chomping down on victims, unknowingly becoming addicted to the crack in their blood, and thus now only targets crack attics. And hijinks ensue. I can’t begin to explain how awesome the trailer is. It opens with “Hollywood’s most diverse film ever”. Alaskan Frontier cabin CRACK PARTY. Hollywood, baby, Hollywood. “What? A one-toothed vampire? That’s ridiculous!” Namedropping trickle-down theory. A crack rehab center handing out free crack to rich white people. And the final stinger of “Oh no, Crackula!”

Crackula Goes to Hollywood is the brainchild of Freddie Rhone, who is writing, directing, and producing. Freddie Rhone is a song writer and producer who formed Ruff Face Entertainment, which besides the cool-looking Crackula Goes to Hollywood, has two other films on its website, both documentaries about social justice – Redemption of the Welfare Queen and The Worlds Civil Rights Social Movement.

A mysterious man from Alaska, known to be from the dark side, becomes addicted to sucking crack blood. He single handedly ends up cleaning the streets of Hollywood of all crack users and drug dealers.

I cannot wait for this film! CAN! NOT! WAIT!

Death Clique Lifetime

Be popular or die with Death Clique on Lifetime! #DeathClique

Death Clique Lifetime

You just got Cliqued!

High school can be murder… I mean, I totally didn’t kill people in high school. But these girls sure do! Yes, a trio of girls in Death Clique get a bit too competitive and soon one of them is dead and the body hidden, leading a mom to search for vengeance. Also there was extra homework in Trig class. Mr. Ailesworth must be tripping if he thinks I can get all this done and have time to dig a shallow grave in the woods!

I mean, I totally wouldn’t dig a shallow grave, especially after killing someone…

Director Doug Campbell previous helmed Lifetime’s similarly-plotted The Cheating Pact, and also has directed four different movies with “at 17” in the title – Accused at 17, Betrayed at 17, Stalked at 17, and Missing at 17. That’s just weird. I sure hope it wasn’t the same 17 year old.

Shocks be to shocks that Death Clique is written by a woman, so maybe it will actually be believable! Barbara Kymlicka wrote The Cheating Pact and a bunch of other Lifetime stuff, and even a few of those 1313 films that don’t seem to have a script besides boys showering and wandering around with no shirts.

Death Clique stars Lexi Ainsworth, Barbara Alyn Woods, Brittany Underwood, Michelle Clunie, Tina Ivlev, and Bruce Thomas

Inspired by true events, a friendship rivalry between three high school girls escalates into a shocking act of violence, and soon one of them is dead. Now the dead girl’s mom is determined to find her missing child… and get justice for her daughter.

Death Clique premieres Saturday, April 12th on Lifetime! If you want to snark on Twitter with the Lifetime crew, the tags are #SaturdayNightSocial and #DeathClique

13 Girls movie

13 Girls comes a haunting!

13 Girls movie

13 Girls stars Sadie Katz (who is always amazing!) as a detective investigating the suicide of a group of Catholic schoolgirls, which leads to a huge demonic conspiracy involving a plot to destroy all men. Shades of True Detective? Jim Towns writes and directs, he helmed Manhaters! and House of Bad previously. FilmThreat has a good interview with him.

Among 13 Girls‘ casts is Sam Aotaki, who is also a featured player in Asylum’s Asian School Girls. P.J. Soles and Dean Cameron have parts, and also Jenny Jones, Ginny You, Elizabeth Ouimette, and Erinn O’Sullivan.

From The Press Release:

Cameras will roll on Jim Towns’ new thriller 13 Girls this October, reuniting the writer/director of House of Bad with his leading actress from that film- blonde, whiskey-voiced Sadie Katz.

Katz will play a troubled detective trying to solve the group suicide of an entire classroom of Catholic schoolgirls. As she gets closer to the truth, she must face her own devils if she is to help thwart a demonic plot to usurp the world of Man.

Katz has most recently appeared in Chavez: Cage of Glory and Scorned, which she co-wrote. Other talent already attached includes Daniel Roebuck (LOST, The Fugitive), Jamie Bernadette (Reel Evil, Axeman at Cutter’s Creek, The 6th Friend), Erik Preston (Halloween 4- The Return of Michael Myers), William Christopher Ford (Karate Kid III) and Australian actress Stef Dawson (Wrath).

House of Bad, which Towns describes as a ‘haunted heist flick’, is due out in February through Osiris Entertainment. He is also in development on A Man with a Gun, starring Tony Todd, which he wrote and is also producing.

13 Girls will shoot in Hollywood and the South Bay area, and is being produced by Towns’ Shadow Kamera Films and through independent financing.

Star Wars Escalator

Episode Links – The New Hope!

Star Wars Escalator

It’s time once again to toss out a whole bunch of links, because that’s what makes the world wide web a web, all them link linking everything together like a web. Which means you have to leave your comfort sites like Facebook and Twitter from time to time to go to other sites, even if it is just briefly. Just make sure to avoid the giant spiders who live on the web and devour unwary travelers, discarding their dessicated husks in the dredges of reddit. Be sure to stop by TarsTarkas.NET occasionally on your journey because it’s just polite. And you don’t want to be rude, do you?

As usual, there is a mix of movie news and reviews and articles from our friends and neighbors. Don’t forget to drop on by our partners in MOSS for more eclectic fun!

The escalator above is in the Tel Aviv City Hall (or at least was as of 2011!) It could also be a fun project for an enterprising local artist who has a lot of time on their hands at a location where there aren’t security cameras at the escalators.

Until the next big long list, news article, or review of something weird and/or wonderful!
