Speaking of The Shining, Stephen King is also working on a sequel book called Doctor Sleep, which follows a now adult Danny Torrance as he deals with vampires. I’m actually looking forward to that.
Bad Toys II – internet video coming to the big screen
The problem is it has been optioned by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions. Yeah. Also Columbia, but as Happy Madison is the problem, that’s what we’ll complain about. That’s our job. We carry a badge. A complaint badge. It isn’t shiny enough.
The plot will feature a grown man playing with his son’s toys and reclaiming his imagination as the play becomes a big action movie spectacular. Original animators Daniel Brunet and Nicolas Douste will co-produce.
Columbia’s big-screen version will center on a grown man reconnecting with his youthful imagination through his son’s toys, and his play turns into an homage to big-budget action films.
Hey, if this gets me an Action League Now movie, I’ll put up with 100 Adam Sandler toys!
Cloud Atlas gets a long confusing brilliant trailer
The cast of awesome actors includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Keith David, Jim Broadbent, Zhou Xun, Bae Doona, Hugh Grant, and Susan Sarandon. Many look to be playing multiple roles spread out over different time periods, each person’s past and future affecting their other lives.
Zero heroes coming to a theater near you! Captain Canuck and the Human Fly!
First up is everyone’s favorite maple syrup loving super hero, Captain Canuck! Yes, that’s an actual comic book character, older than me even, and now he’s heading for the big screen. In fact, the official announcement was at last year’s Comic-Con, but this year they announced that there was a writer for the film! Arne Olsen, famed scribe of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: the Movie, is doing the script. The Captain Canuck series began in 1975, where the first Captain Canuck patrolled Canada in the futuristic world of 1993, where “Canada had become the most powerful country in the world.” I’m not sure who Captain Canuck fought against, but it was probably radioactive beavers. Minds Eye Entertainment is the group bringing Captain Canuck to the screen.
Next up is a super hero who was briefly a Marvel comics character, and was sort of based on a real person! The Human Fly. You all remember him? Described as an “accident victim turned pacifist acrobat, the wildest hero of all…because he’s real!” He also smacks sharks with a cane, according to the cover of his comic book that I haven’t read. But scour those 10 for a dollar bins and you’ll be sure to find some back issues of The Human Fly. Rick Rojatt is the stunt guy he’s supposedly based on. Also a Human Fly showed up on an episode of the Simpsons, he stayed up all night dying his underwear. Such is the heroic pedigree of Human Flies! Eisenberg-Fisher Productions is independently producing this, which will hopefully cash in on all that Ant-Man money.
I hope both of these two films do well and then the heroes team up to fight Beaver Sharks! That’s a billion dollar movie idea, right there!

Marvel upcoming film slate to take all your money
First is Iron Man 3 coming out May 3, 2013. Directed by Shane Black, the story seems based on the Extremis arc from the Iron Man comics, though long-mentioned villain the Mandarin will be appearing as well. Footage from Comic-Con showed Ben Kingsley as Mandarin attacking Tony Stark’s home. Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, and Jon Favreau return, along with Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, and Avengers star Cobie Smulders. There was buzz a few months ago about “Iron Patriot” armor that just turned out to be repainted War Machine armor.
Next is Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013. Alan Taylor is now attached to direct, and most of the cast is returning. There have been no official villain reveals, though the rumor cloud is that it will be new villains with Loki lurking around doing his Loki thing. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, and Idris Elba are reprising their roles from the first film. Joshua Dallas can’t reprise Fandral due to tv commitments, but is being replaced by Zachary Levi, who was originally slated to appear in the first Thor.
Captain America: The Winder Soldier is the Captain America sequel whose title might be giving away the plot line. The original story featured the return of Cap’s sidekick Bucky as a brainwashed killer, so we’ll see if that ends up happening. One casting announcement we do have is Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/the Falcon, who was Cap’s sidekick for a long time in the 1970s and one of the first black superheroes. Chris Evans is returning (duh!) but besides being directed Joe and Anthony Russo and a release date of April 4, 2014, we don’t have much more information.
By far the craziest announcement was the confirmation of Guardians of the Galaxy, due on August 1, 2014. This is a different Guardians of the Galaxy team than the one I grew up with: Groot, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Racoon, Gamorra, and Star-Lord. Though I am familiar with Drax and Gamorra from old Adam Warlock titles, the rest are new to me. Basically, Marvel is creating a $200 million film starring a raccoon and a tree fighting aliens, which will then lead into Avengers 2. Sure, I’ll play along!

Finally, there will also be an Ant-Man film, but beyond Edgar Wright showing off test footage, there was no real announcement of anything important about Ant-Man. But one day, there will be an Ant-Man film. And it will be triumph-ANT!
