Vampire Vixens from Venus (not to be confused with Vampire Vixens is the story about seductive alien women who come to Earth to steal brain juices from excited men. After running across it in a random movie rental nine years ago in college, I had been searching for it for years, and thanks to some luck I ran across a copy. Most memorable after all that time was the CGI was literally the worst I had ever seen in a film and may have been one of the first movies with a CGI character. The alien women have their alternate alien modes, which gives us a few instances of alien monsters killing men as well. Topping all of that is the movie’s bumbling cop hero character, who just happens to be British for no real good reason! It all adds up to a bizarre ride for what is essentially a skin flick, but is memorable enough due to the factors that make it so weird.
The film has some crude humor, but for the most part is just silly and doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously, which is a boon for these sci-fi sex movies. Some of the jokes are groan-inducing, while random silly things such as a guy in the town always dressed like Elvis are just fun (especially since the Elvis guy looks like an 80-pound weakling.) The creature effects here appear to have the same general style as other Ted A. Bohus films such as Metamorphosis: The Alien Factor or Nightbeast, but I haven’t seen any of them so I can’t compare further.

I figured I should probably do small articles about each one of the sites I link to, as I have chosen them important enough to link to for one reason or another. So I’ll start with the newest one, Cinema Suicide
Cinema Suicide is “A Celebration of Cheap Thrills”, run by Bryan White who I have run into on Something Awful and Badmovies.org. He has a relatively new blog where he writes reviews of the many films he watches, most of which are the trashy variety. That makes him a kindred spirit to here, as TarsTarkas.NET is filled with all sorts of horrible crap in addition to hidden gems (or not so hidden gems.) We’ve both survived Catman 2: Boxer’s Blow (a badge of honor there!), he’s discovered the 9 Deaths of the Ninja, and he even has gone over a Turkish film Son Osmanli: Yandim Ali.
Tars Tarkas says check him out!
RiffTrax News – 300 avaliable, Bourne Identity next
I hadn’t written about RiffTrax in a while as I had been busy. They recently celebrated their 1st year anniversary, and just released the movie 300, which was a pretty good riff featuring all three of the MST3K crew, Mike Nelson, Bill Corbet, and Kevin Murphy. I didn’t see 300 until just before watching it while riffed, I found it over the top in a weird way, and can see why certain people really like it. I doubt I will watch it again non-Riffed, though. I did enjoy the RiffTrax, it was well done, and the last of the “This is Sparta!” puns they did was by far my favorite line.
The three will all be back for the next movie, another action flick The Bourne Identity. I have yet to see this one also (but have seen the sequel) so it will probably be entertaining. They must have figured out that almost everyone buying them are young males and thus action films go hand in hand.
The first of the Film Crew DVDs is out, Hollywood After Dark, which is a good film if you want to see sleazy people be sleazy, and Rue Maclanhan strip tease. No one does, so the movie is awful, but the Film Crew movies are superior to the RiffTrax and the disc is a winner. I eagerly await the other three films released. The Film Crew movies were filmed years ago and are finally getting released, but the producer says if they do well than more will be made. So we all know what to do, buy 50 copies each!
