Robert Rodriguez Officially Rebooting Predator

The official word is in on the story mentioned before about Robert Rodriguez rebooting Predator.
AICN has a quick interview where Rodriguez explains that he got the job thanks to a script treatment called Predators that he wrote years ago.
So it’s happening. Just wait until Aliens is rebooted, and then the rebooted franchises have their own crossover, then the reboots fight the originals, and also there is a T-Rex for some reason. No word on how Rose McGowan will be shoehorned in.

Little Shop of Horrors getting remade

Roger Corman’s Little Shop of Horrors is getting scoped out to be remade (but not as a musical) so expect that to bomb at the box office sometime in the near future.
shocktillyoudrop sez:

under the direction of Corman vet and Wrong Turn 3 helmer Declan O’Brien.

“I just optioned the remake rights,” O’Brien announced to ShockTillYouDrop.com this morning. “We’re going to set that up as a studio feature.” The director is going to be shepherded by Roger Corman and The Bourne Identity producer Andrew Tennenbaum “After I did this movie for Roger called Cyclops he was so happy he said, ‘This is the best movie that’s come through my doors in 20 years, so here’s my catalogue, pick something else.'”

“I have a take on it you’re not going to expect. I’m taking it in a different direction, let’s put it that way.”

Cyclops wasn’t terrible, but unless you actually do the alternate ending of the musical version, I don’t see this one being near as fun. But then, I’m cynical.

The Karate Kid now The Kung Fu Kid

Jackie Chan

You all knew about the Karate Kid remake, right? With Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith? Jackie Chan producing and as Mr Miyagi? About how the kid was in China yet Karate is a Japanese martial art? Well, they just changed the name to The Kung Fu Kid to solve that one problem! That might be a smart move, because then you can argue it is in the same universe, just we don’t meet any of the original characters. The story claims they changed it to avoid comparing it to the original, but that just means we will compare it to The Next Karate Kid now.

Three Stooges movie looks like a reality

Sigh

MGM and the Farrelly brothers are finally slapping together their high-profile cast for “The Three Stooges,” a comedy project the filmmakers have been developing for years. Sean Penn is set to play Larry, and Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly. Benicio Del Toro is a rumored possibility for their taciturn leader, Moe.

The studio is looking to start production in the fall for a 2010 release slot.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly wrote the script, which Bobby has referenced as “Dumb, Dumber & Dumbest,” and will produce with Bradley Thomas and Charlie Wessler. Earl and Robert Benjamin of C3 will executive produce.

The film is not a biopic but a fictional treatment that maintains the Stooges’ gleeful slap schtick updated for a modern milieu.

Originally constructed as four separate shorts, the feature screenplay has since been streamlined into a single narrative. Included in the story line is an opening that shows the Stooges as kids in an orphanage, a device that will require some “Benjamin Button”-style visual trickery to place the adult actors’ heads on child actors’ bodies.

MacGyver will return, call Patty and Selma

Yes, a Simpsons joke, because I can. MacGyver is joining the long list of tv shows being turned into movies. No word on if Richard Dean Anderson is being brought in to continue as MacGyver, but I doubt it. I smell reboot.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – It will take more than twine, bubble gum and a pencil to do it, but the science-oriented adventure series “MacGyver” is being developed as a feature film for New Line.
….

Raffaella De Laurentiis, daughter of veteran producer Dino De Laurentiis , is producing the movie through her Raffaella Prods. along with Martha De Laurentiis and series creator Lee Zlotoff. Dino De Laurentiis is executive producing.

No writer has been hired. The studio hopes to find a script that acknowledges the concept’s pop-culture profile yet still makes for a serious and fun adventure movie .

“We think we’re a stick of chewing gum , a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise,” said New Line’s Richard Brener.

Hurr hurr MacGyver humor.

Don't badmouth MacGyver
