Sugar Daddies
The bread and butter of Lifetime movies are ridiculous scare films that show the danger of things like being pregnant, drugs, the internet, being involved in any way with a man, being involved in any way with a woman, or choking yourself to get high. So of course they have to chime in on the dangerous world of college-age girls sleeping with rich older men for money with Sugar Daddies. Spoiler alert: It’s dangerous!

Kara Jones (Taylor Gildersleeve) is your typical hardworking prelaw student who spends all her time waiting tables, working on papers, and having beer spilled on her. Oh, and she’s fired, because they hired too many people at the bar. She’s got no money and no job, thus can’t accept an unpaid internship somewhere that would rocket her future law career. Kara’s roommate Shawna (Ashley McCarthy) has no money problems, because she receives large checks thanks to the time she spends hanging out with a rich old guy. Real old. Old as balls. Old as balls that blast out dust. Into Shawna, hence how she makes her money. The lure of not being broke, dropping out, and being a waitress for the next decade is appealing to Kara, enough that she lets Shawna talk her into attending one of the meetup parties, which is packed with rich old guys and hot young thing. Kara gets uncomfortable, and she’s approached by a man named Grant Zager (Peter Strauss). Though he’s more charming than creepy, she still leaves. Grant remarks to his creepy bodyguard Peter (Timothy Brennen) that he loves a challenge.

Grant is one of those guys who has enough money to always get his way, and with Kara having no money, her family having no money (her dad (James C. Burns) was injured at work and the insurance company screwed them over, leaving them with huge medical bills). Kara allows herself to be talked into going out with Grant once, which means a dinner date in San Francisco (which they fly to by private jet, though it’s still less impressive to me, who lives in San Francisco!) He also dangles a $5000 check in front of her, promising she’ll get one every month, if…

Back to School Mom Lifetime

Back to School Mom enrolls on Lifetime!

Back to School Mom Lifetime

If doing extra credit is wrong, I don’t want to be right!

Back to School Mom features a woman returning to college only to find out that the child she gave up long ago is one of her new best friends! It’s like getting a bonus diploma or something! No clue yet if there is some sort of crazy twist, like incest or the son is nuts or anything. It looks like it’s just a straight forward nice story of unexpected things happening. At least we know something good came from all those “Obama wants moms to go back to school” ads that littered the web a few years back!

Mary Thomas, a free-spirited musician, has spent the past two decades traveling the world, but at age 41 she decides to go back to college and finish her degree so that, for once, she can finally finish something she started. Back at her old university, she becomes close friends with her popular and charming “peer tutor”— only to learn that he is actually the son she gave up 20 years earlier.

Back to School Mom stars Kimberly Elise (John Q), Loretta Devine (Waiting to Exhale), Rick Fox (He Got Game), Garcelle Beauvais (NYPD Blue), Harry Lennix (The Matrix Reloaded), and Denzel Whitaker (Warrior).

The movie is directed by Christopher Erskin (Johnson Family Vacation), with Gerald Olson (The Bug Movie) writing the script. The movie filmed in South Africa.

Back to School Mom premieres Saturday, February 14, on Lifetime!

Megachurch Murder Lifetime

Megachurch Murder brings the unholy spirit to Lifetime!

Megachurch Murder Lifetime

And the Lord sayth: “Don’t ask me about the Bill Cosby allegations!”

Murder, church, and megas, the three things that combine to make a brand new Lifetime Channel film! Megachurch Murder is the first “Mega-” movie I’ve seen that’s not a monster movie nor a movie about a blue supervillain. What it does cover is megachurches. Now, I went to several churches growing up, usually black churches. Most of them were small churches with maybe 200 worshipers at most. The whole “megachurch” thing just seems so weird to me. Why would you want to be part of thousands of people, going to a church where it’s highly unlikely that you would even know the pastor, and so big you just get lost in the crowd? It seems like the opposite of what I’d consider church, but that’s just me. Everyone worships differently, and if you like megachurches, more power to you. Now with that out of the way, let’s bring on the murder!

After popular and charismatic megachurch leader Hamilton Spears commits suicide, his teenage daughter Hannah’s life goes off the rails. The only thing keeping her together is her new boyfriend, Oliver. When she finds evidence pointing to a church conspiracy and threats toward her father, she is determined to prove that Hamilton’s death was murder not suicide. As she gets closer to the truth, she realizes her own mother may be involved in her father’s murder…and that the boy she is falling in love with is the son of his killer.

You got to love crazy murder stories, this one will probably be completely nuts. It sounds great, and the premise allows them to do some really dramatic stuff. Here’s hoping for a solid winner! Megachurch Murder stars Tamala Jones, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Michael Beach, Shanica Knowles, Romeo Miller, Corbin Bleu, and Dawnn Lewis.

Megachurch Murder is directed by Darin Scott (House Party: Tonight’s the Night) and written by Kendall Clark (their only credit). Megachurch Murder premieres February 7th on Lifetime Channel!

Nanny Cam

Nanny Cam (Review)

Nanny Cam

aka Sitter Cam
Nanny Cam
2014
Written by Brian McAuley
Directed by Nancy Leopardi

Nanny Cam
Oh, Lifetime. Just when you think your films have gotten boring, you throw out some crazy gems like Nanny Cam! Crazy teenage babysitters are what you get when you don’t hire exclusively through that club of babysitters, though since all those girls are grown up now, it’s what you have to do. But in addition to the baby sitter being nuts, we have a mom with secrets, adoption and abortion tragedies, parents working too hard, paranoia, and even dementia! Nanny Cam is some good Lifetime fun, bringing just enough crazy to entertain, and spreading it out to keep tight pacing.

Linda Kessler (Laura Allen) is your typical working mom who is always on her phone, to the point where her husband Mark (Cam Gigandet) hates her phone. Their one night out to celebrate their anniversary is cut short when their daughter Chloe (Farrah Mackenzie) is injured as their older babysitter Barbara has a senior moment while cooking some mac and cheese. Linda blames herself and is resolved to get a new, younger sitter. But good sitters are hard to find, and until then Chloe has to hang out at the house Mark is renovating to flip, being left unsupervised to play with nail guns.
Nanny Cam
It’s there that she makes a friend, teenage girl Heather Lambert (India Eisley), who used to nanny and is looking for some extra money before she starts school in the fall. Mark is instantly on board, but Linda is suspicious, and not just because Heather is a hot teenage girl. But her reference checks out, and Linda reluctantly hires her. Linda does get a nanny cam, hidden in an alarm clock, so she can keep an eye at home and make sure Chloe isn’t hurt again.

With this Ring Lifetime

With This Ring is Lifetime’s latest big hype relationship movie!

With this Ring Lifetime

Wait, we have to share one ring between the three of us???

Get married or else with Lifetime’s With This Ring! It’s based on the book The Vow by Denene Millner.

With This Ring looks like a fun movie about sisterhood and dealing with a pack of men with problems and must maneuver around those obstacles, or just dump the guys entirely for some new blood. But the clock is ticking on their commitment to marry within a year, so soon anything will go!

Should you get married in a year even if it isn’t the right decision, based solely on peer pressure? I hope that’s addressed. Either way, this looks like it will be a fun watch, so I’m looking forward to DVRing it and maybe even getting to it within a reasonable amount of time!

With This Ring stars a whole pack of awesome people: Regina Hall (Scary Movie 1-4), Jill Scott (Why Did I Get Married? 1 and 2), Eve Jeffers Cooper (Barbershop 1 and 2), Brooklyn Sudano, Deion Sanders (football and baseball), Stephen Bishop, Jason George, and Brian White

With This Ring is written and directed by accomplished music video director Nzingha Stewart, this is her first nondocumentary feature.

Regina Hall (“Think Like a Man Too”) and Grammy® Award winners Jill Scott (“Get On Up,” “Steel Magnolias”) and Eve Jeffers Cooper (“Whip It,” “Barbershop”) star as three single friends who vow to get married within a year after attending their best friend’s wedding in the Lifetime Original Movie “With This Ring” (#WithThisRing). The romantic comedy based on the best seller “The Vow” by Denene Millner, Angela Burt-Murray and Mitzi Miller also stars Brooklyn Sudano (“My Wife and Kids”), NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders (“Deion’s Family Playbook”), Stephen Bishop (“Being Mary Jane”), Jason George (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Brian White (“The Night Before”).

After attending their friend Elise’s (Sudano) wedding to Nate (Bishop) on New Year’s Eve, Trista (Hall), a career-driven talent agent, Viviane (Scott), a successful gossip columnist, and Amaya (Cooper), a struggling actress, make a pact to get married within the year to either a new love or a man waiting in the wings. But the close friends face their own set of challenges – Trista has not gotten over her commitment-phobic ex-boyfriend Damon (White), Viviane is secretly in love with Sean (George), the father of her son, and Amaya is desperate to break up her boyfriend Keith’s (Sanders) unhappy marriage so they can live happily ever after. Each woman starts the year with high hopes and dreams of what will happen over the next 12 months…but will they all make it to the altar?

Written and directed by Nzingha Stewart (“Pretty Little Liars,” “The Fosters”), “With This Ring” is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers are Tracey E. Edmonds (“Jumping the Broom”) through her Edmonds Entertainment Group, Gabrielle Union (“Top Five,” “Being Mary Jane”) in her first producing role and Sheila Ducksworth (“Why We Laugh: Funny Women,” “Soul Food”). Casting is by Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd (“Fruitvale Station”).

With This Ring premieres January 24th on Lifetime!
