Perfect on Paper Hallmark

Perfect on Paper puts it to the test on Hallmark Channel!

Perfect on Paper Hallmark

Over there is where I put the thousands of awards for Test Tube Teens from the Year 2000!

Hallmark gives us another romance story with Perfect On Paper, about a woman who dates a bunch of duds, and maybe she’s found someone cool in a lawyer. But as that character doesn’t rate a name while the surfer character does, it looks like the surfer dud just might be a stud. And half the film is literary The Devil Wears Prada! It’s two films in one, thanks to Hallmark Channel efficiency!

Portland book editor Natalie Holland (Lindsay Hartley) has chosen the wrong guy – another underachiever – once again. With her life going nowhere fast, she accepts a job offer from publisher and friend Avery Goldstein (Haley Strode) and moves to Los Angeles. A woman of depth and principle, Portland chic Natalie is a fish out of water in LA. Things only get worse when she learns she’s been hired to edit the latest romance novel from bestselling author Beverly Wilcox (Morgan Fairchild), a powerful, glamorous and intimidating figure straight out of “The Devil Wears Prada.” Warily taking this assignment, Natalie struggles to maintain her integrity as she contends with Beverly’s criticisms and threats. Along the way, complications arise when she meets a handsome surfer (Drew Fuller) — who mentors a young boy (Bryce Clyde Jenkins) — and a charming, successful LA attorney (Kieren Hutchison). As tensions mount at work and in romance, the young editor learns a lesson about judging a book by its cover and finds out that guys who look “perfect on paper” may not always be the better choice.

Perfect On Paper (previously known as On Paper) star Morgan Fairchild as Beverly Wilcox, Lindsay Hartley as Natalie Holland, Drew Fuller as Coop, and Kieren Hutchinson. It’s directed by Ron Oliver (Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars) and written by Bob Sáenz (Help for the Holidays)

Perfect On Paper premieres Saturday, September 20, on Hallmark Channel!

Hallmark leaves you Stranded in Paradise!

Stranded in Paradise Hallmark Channel

They’ll pave this and put up a parking lot…over my dead body!

Hallmark pumps out original movies in a regular fashion, so it’s high time TarsTarkas.NET started covering their movies more and possibly even watching and reviewing them if I have time and space on the DVR and they don’t get in the way of the Lifetime movies. So in that spirit of “Sure, why not?”, it’s time to talk about Stranded in Paradise, the most recent Hallmark Original Movie, premiering August 9th on Hallmark Channel!

Tess Nelson (Vanessa Marcil) is a poised and confident human resources executive who is aiming for a well-deserved promotion, but when her boss informs her she’s being laid off instead, Tess is furious and worried about letting down her demanding mother, Mona (Cindy Pickett). Determined to use a business trip to an HR convention in Puerto Rico to score a new job, she is discouraged when the trip is a disaster from the start and an approaching hurricane makes it impossible to fly home. But, after bumping into a handsome fellow traveler, Carter (James Denton), Tess opens up to the possibilities beyond her desk job, and the couple’s adventures on the island bring them closer while the hurricane rolls in. With help from a fearless and friendly local, Stella (Gladys Rodri´guez), Carter, and Tess take shelter. Will Tess’ unanticipated risk lead her to a happiness she never dreamed of and a love that goes beyond a week in paradise?

Well, that’s a welcome change from being murdered in paradise, like you would have been on Lifetime! Stranded in Paradise is one of those movies about finding yourself that’s target to a more female audience. That doesn’t mean those films are bad, they just aren’t the usual science fiction/drama stuff. It stars Vanessa Marcil (The Rock), James Denton (Desperate Housewives), Cindy Pickett (Elf Sparkle and the Special Red Dress), and Gladys Rodríguez (The Caller)

Stranded in Paradise directed by Bert Kish (Snow Bride) and is written by Tracy Andreen (also Snow Bride) Check it out August 9th on Hallmark Channel!

Aurora Teagarden Charlaine Harris

Hallmark fires up Charlaine Harris’ Aurora Teagarden series — with Candace Cameron Bure!

DJ Tanner will be solving mysteries in a new series of original movies on the Hallmark Channel. Aurora Teagarden is based on the mystery series by Charlaine Harris, most famous for the Southern Vampire Mystery series that gave birth to the HBO show True Blood.

Aurora Teagarden is not a place, but the name of the main character, Aurora “Roe” Teagarden, who is a librarian and member of the Real Murders Club. The group meets and analyzes famous murder cases until the members start popping up dead, killed in the manner of famous murder cases. Thus everyone is a suspect and a potential victim until the case is solved.

The Aurora Teagarden series consists of 8 books and one short story:

  • Real Murders
  • A Bone to Pick
  • Three Bedrooms, One Corpse
  • The Julius House
  • Dead Over Heels
  • “Deeply Dead” in Murder, They Wrote (short story)
  • A Fool And His Honey
  • Last Scene Alive
  • Poppy Done to Death

Between True Blood, this series, and Harris’ Harper Connelly Mysteries getting a SyFy series, she is becoming a force in genre series inspiration.

Candace Cameron Bure is set to play Roe Teagarden, with Teena Booth writing the adaptation. This is billed as part of the all-new Original Mystery Wheel Franchise, which is three different mystery movie series that tag team airings on a set night. The other two Mystery Wheel film series for 2015 are: Garage Sale Mystery series starring Lori Loughlin (also of Full House, it’s a Full House Mystery Domination!) and The Gourmet Detective starring Dylan Neal.

Hallmark Mystery fans will note that the original Garage Sale Mystery aired in 2013, the subsequent films will carry on the series. The Gourmet Detective is based on the book series by Peter King, and Dylan Neal’s wife Becky Southwell will write the films based on the novels.

The original Mystery Wheel Franchise featured films series including Mystery Woman with Kellie Martin, McBride with John Larroquette, Jane Doe with Lea Thompson, and Murder 101 with Dick Van Dyke

Hallmark is Lifetime’s only real competitor in original programming of this nature, so it’s good to see them stepping up their game a bit. It’s good to see mystery books making their way to television in multiple forms. This will probably open the field up wide and clear if they perform well, maybe even the gimmick mysteries I read with magical cats or talking cats or cats who hang out with their owners in the libraries (99% of the protagonists in mystery books are librarians). Basically, cat based mysteries are the future, and the future should be now! Until then, I guess I’ll settle for Candace Cameron Bure…
