Three Stooges movie looks like a reality

Sigh

MGM and the Farrelly brothers are finally slapping together their high-profile cast for “The Three Stooges,” a comedy project the filmmakers have been developing for years. Sean Penn is set to play Larry, and Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly. Benicio Del Toro is a rumored possibility for their taciturn leader, Moe.

The studio is looking to start production in the fall for a 2010 release slot.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly wrote the script, which Bobby has referenced as “Dumb, Dumber & Dumbest,” and will produce with Bradley Thomas and Charlie Wessler. Earl and Robert Benjamin of C3 will executive produce.

The film is not a biopic but a fictional treatment that maintains the Stooges’ gleeful slap schtick updated for a modern milieu.

Originally constructed as four separate shorts, the feature screenplay has since been streamlined into a single narrative. Included in the story line is an opening that shows the Stooges as kids in an orphanage, a device that will require some “Benjamin Button”-style visual trickery to place the adult actors’ heads on child actors’ bodies.

Future Cop images

Here are a bunch of images of production stuff from the upcoming Future Cop movie starring Andy Lau, Fan Bing Bing, Barbie Hsu, Xu Jiao, Da S, Mike He, Liu Yang, and Luo Jia Ying (who cross-dresses) Directed by Wong Jing. The film is not to be confused with Future Cops from 1993, despite a similar premise of cops traveling back in time to protect someone who affects the future. In this one, Andy Lau plays a policeman who time-travels from year 2080 to present day to protect a professor who solves the energy crisis.

Tom Hanks is Major Matt Mason in Major Matt Mason!

Tom Hanks is Major Matt Mason in the new upcoming film based on the Major Matt Mason toy line that existed before I was born. As in they stopped making them before I was born, not like GI Joe that also predates me but is still around and also getting a movie.
ComingSoon quotes variety

The film will be developed as a star vehicle for Tom Hanks, and Graham Yost will write the script.

Playtone partners Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce.

The toy line originated in 1966; Mason led an astronaut team that worked on the moon and lived in a space station. The toy was a hit in the buildup to the first manned moon mission. Mattel retired the line in the 1970s

Could be some campy space fun!
Looks like every toy line will get a movie! How about… A Battle Beasts movie! I want, no, DEMAND they make this film immediately! And thirty sequels, and new Battle Beasts toys. Plus we need movies for Thundercats, Visionaries, Go-Bots, Starriors, M.A.S.K., and the Sectaurs! Snap to it, Hollywood! I am your demographic and I have spoken!

Non-Stop is about alien abductions, not monsters, interest wanes

Looks like Non-Stop is going to be a film about alien abductions, not monsters as previously hoped. Info here

According to Variety, Nonstop is an action thriller, “based on an original idea”, which charts the fate of a plane’s passengers after it has been mysteriously abducted by an alien ship.

Even with Patrick Tatopoulos on board, I am less interested now. You could say they need to remove the “Non-” from the title now!

Monster Attack Network coming to theaters

Disney is making a film based on the graphic novel Monster Attack Network, about a team led by Nate Klinger who deal with monster attacks on the Pacific island of Lapuatu. The graphic novel is written by Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman, with illustrations by Nima Sorat. I haven’t read it, but it looks like it came out only in 2007. Hopefully Disney thinks Monsters vs. Aliens will spark a renewed interest in giant monster films for the whole family. Director Andy Fickman just scored a success with the Race to Witch Mountain remake, and the screenplay will be written by Scott Elder and Josh Harmon. Reports are Disney expects this to be a big tentpole film.
