Senate races and what not

Scott Brown prevailed over Martha Coakley in Mass. to claim the senate seat in a special election. The vacant seat was the one held for decades by Teddy Kennedy, and the defeat of a Democrat in one of the bluest states came as a shock to many. It shouldn’t be a shock, (and, no, spies from Resistnet, it is not because your Teabag Nation is starting American Revolution II: Electric Tebaggaloo) as Martha Coakley ran a horrible, horrible campaign. A campaign where she basically did nothing for weeks after the primary while Scott Brown went all over Massachusetts and worked the public. Coakley didn’t seem to want to meet anyone, and the few times she was talking in public, she didn’t seem to know basic facts about her own state.

Much talk is being said about how the weak Democratic leadership on the Health Care Bill and the whole Bankster situation did in Coakley. Those things did help uninspire many voters into not bothering to go to the polls. The Health Care bill as written is a weak corporate giveaway that is too watered down by horrific leadership in the senate and complete lack of leadership on Obama’s part. There is no question if the White House had been pushing certain more progressive options they would have made it into the bill. But Obama had no intention of doing such a thing, because he’s a centrist, not a liberal.

The other major thing leading to anger is that the only things the Democrats seem to do about the economic problems is give money to the banks. There is a lot of public anger at the banks, and this is the perfect opportunity for a smart party to ride the populist rage against the banks to push in real reform, set up job stimulus bills instead of handing money to the bankers. But the Democrats are not doing that, because they are too busy sucking on the teat of big finance. Not all of them, just enough that nothing can be accomplished. And those guys are ruining it for everyone. And thus, the only populist rage being channeled now is the Teabaggers exploiting rage into their disturbing, self-destructive parties.

The main lessons to learn from the race are not to be more like the Republicans or to abandon all reform or any of the other stupid things conservative Democrats are saying. You don’t need to wait until you have 60 votes to do everything, and you don’t need to anger your base and spend months working on a bill that gets more and more horrible because one or two idiots in your party (or not even in your party anymore!) keeps dragging things out. Bush NEVER had a 60-vote majority, and he did whatever the hell he wanted. When Harry Reid loses in 2010 it will be the best thing to happen to Democrats in years. the Democrats had the supermajority and all sorts of fun games and prizes, and couldn’t deliver a simple universal health care bill.

That doesn’t mean we’ve given up or are gonna go all Teabagger because we thing the Democratic leadership blew it. This just means we’re going to stick to the “More Democrats, Better Democrats” plan and get some better Democrats in. If that means we lose a few horrible Democrats, fine by me.

But in the final result, Martha Coakley lost because Martha Coakley was a bad candidate. The blame falls on her shoulders first and foremost. She did not put in the work required, and now has paid the price. But just wait until Senator Scott Brown does something horrible. At least, that’s what Glenn Beck things, who thinks “This one could end with a dead intern. I’m just saying. It could end with a dead intern.”

But I’m sure the Teabaggers will just blame the intern.

Actually, this whole thing was just an excuse to post the Glenn Beck video! Plus I can also link this quote:

Ditto any attempt to grapple with climate change. In fact, any legislative moves with this Democratic party and this Republican party are close to hopeless. The Democrats are a clapped out, gut-free lobbyist machine. The Republicans are insane. The system is therefore paralyzed beyond repair.

But keep your head up. The game ain’t over until you lose all your lives (or you rescue the Princess.) Feel free to tell me where I am wrong, because that’s what the comments are for.

A Year in Death – 2009

2009 was a pretty shitty year. Even though it began with the historic election of President Obama discontentedness among Americans over unemployment, housing foreclosures, credit card debt, bank accounts drying up, and Muslims in the White House was at an all time high in 2009. Crazy was also at an all time high last year, which when combined with discontentedness, makes for an alarming trend in violence (and especially gun violence). Most people are still talking about the shootings at Fort Hood and decrying what a horrible tragedy it was (and it was a tragedy arguably the worst of all the events) but I think this selective memory has less to do with the fact that 13 people died and more to do with the fact that Nadal Hasan was a Muslim, which of course is our enemy and we should hate with a fiery passion because look what that “religion of peace” has wrought blah de blah de blah!

If we look back over 2009 and all the bloody incidents that occurred, however, there’s a different picture that emerges. Christian, Jew, Muslim, Scientologist, whatever the creed or race or background of all these individuals they all shared a good deal of discontent in their lives which led them to perpetrate their horrible crimes and murders. Many of them were motivated by hatred towards another type of person or by anger towards the financial crisis (and dem thar jew bankers), or were just crazy off-kilter wackos to begin with who were fulfilling their own destiny by going down in a blaze of gunfire, but in the end many of these people were too ashamed by their situation and probably ashamed about what they just did (killing lots of people) that they ultimately took their own lives after getting their anger out.

I don’t like to dwell on these kinds of incidents, I’m certainly not as morbid as most people I’ve met, but I decided to put together this collection of shootings/murder-sucides in 2009 because there actually doesn’t seem to be a place that has cataloged all this in one place. No, really! Even searching Google News for “2009 shootings” returns nothing related to the major news events that we all remember hearing about last year. It’s important to look at all these incidents as a whole, I believe, and also important to put the American circumstance in 2009 in context. People were pissed, people still are pissed, and we’re probably going to have another recession before the year is out. And add to that equation the many Americans still live in dreadful fear of many things (terrorism, religion, their bank account, police officers, Communists), so we’re not out of the woods yet (plus with the Tea Partiers calling for violent armed revolution I don’t think we’ll hear an end to it until we get a new president). So on that note, I present a chronological chart of all (or as many as I could find on Wikipedia) indicents of violent gun crime in 2009:

I’m sure there are some incidents in 2009 that I’m forgetting to mention, but even with an abridged list one can definitely see the uptick in violence, both workplace and domestic, that occurred last year. The list above contains just seventeen, but these were the cases that made the biggest headlines and were the easiest to recall via search. I don’t even want to bother adding up the body count. Here in the conclusion of this post though I’d normally try to make some kind of argument to wrap things up, but really all I have to say here is that this kind of thing is just plain sad. Just plain sad. Let the dead’s passing not be in vain.

Haiti, disasters, and people worse than monsters…

The recent Haitian earthquake is a disaster of epic proportions. It is simply awful. But, some people just say completely horrible things. I don’t understand these people. They must be mentally ill. Or just fucking crazy. In any event, even in the worst of times, you will always have a right wing jackoff saying horrible things on the internet. Welcome to reality! So after you’ve donated to the Red Cross, read up on some things that will make you lose faith in humanity. REMEMBER TO DONATE FIRST, because some of you might not have the stomach to afterwards. You have been warned.

I will start this out with something I have never been able to truthfully say: The crazy posts you will see here are in the minority, and actually had a few people calling them out for being so damn awful. Not many, and not all, but some.

Haiti is literally hell on Earth!

See, this is why I told you to donate to the Red Cross first. Because now you know all that money went to Obama’s pockets! MuHAHAHAHAHAHA!! We got your money!

I spit out my coffee in shock at your assertions that Haiti is a tragedy!

Did hundreds of thousands of people die in that?
f38.jpg

As much fun as a few FR idiots are, you have to remember their inspiration has been screaming pretty much the same thing. First he bashes the island of Haiti:

After earthquake, Rush says Haiti produces “zilch, zero, nada,” asks when Obama will call for Aristide to be returned

Then he goes all racist on us!

Limbaugh: Obama will use Haiti to boost credibility with “light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country”

Granted, Pat Robertson probably has said the dumbest public comment when he said that the earthquake was because Haitians swore a pact to the devil.

But don’t worry, FreeRepublic, the worst comment I found about Haiti comes from our old favorite, ResistNet.com, where a guy actually wrote Haitian Earthquake fan-fiction to try to tickle your funny bone. leon lunsford is our Douchebag of the Day!

Wingnut Web – TarsTarkas.NET is Infiltrated Edition

Oh Noes! TarsTarkas.NET is in trouble! In case you haven’t noticed, TarsTarkas.NET has been infiltrated by militia types who are destroying this site. Or so that was the plan, but no one could be bothered to do anything (as usual from these keyboard militias) and thus TarsTarkas.NET was saved. TarsTarkas.NET victory! Of course, doing what we do, we have people talking about us all the time. And the best part is, we know about it. Yep, that’s right. We know. And sometimes, we share. Because sharing is caring. So let’s go all Care Bear Stare and check out what The Well Regulated Militia (http://militias.ning.com) thinks of TarsTarkas.NET (we’ve met them before here and here and many members are also Resistnet.com members):

It begins…
a1.jpg

It’s gonna go down, son, and TarsTarkas.NET will pay
a2.jpg

fedup! got fedup with figuring out how to comment or join the forums or send an email
a3.jpg

We are so brainwashed that only the communistiest communists can give us orders.
a4.jpg

fedup! is TarsTarkas.NET’s biggest fan. Just wait until they find out we have multiple accounts as members of their militia. And we have blog commentors who are also undercover in their militia. With the recent infighting in their militia and people dumped, it is probably there is hardly any members of that militia at all.
a5.jpg

GodsModernDayMartyr (a name that totally doesn’t mean they want to get gunned down by the Feds) falls for another ruse.
a6.jpg

TarsTarkas.NET: buncha dumbasses, utterly brainwashed, just plain evil, and self-destructing boobs.
a7.jpg

Well, there you go. If you want to see this thread, too bad, it got deleted weeks ago during one of the many militia.ning.com infighting spats where threads were deleted left and right and many emails were sent out with various people pointing fingers. The FBI doesn’t need to follow these guys, they’re too busy destroying themselves. This is why children shouldn’t have guns.

TeaParty.org and Resistnet.com meet the N-word

TeaParty.org owner Dale Robertson is one of those patriotic guys who wanders around teabagging people while carrying signs with racial slurs on them. And he is being promoted by Resistnet.com! Or they were, everything related to Dale Robertson seems to have been scrubbed from Resistnet.com, though I still have the email I got from them promoting the TeaParty.org concerts.

So the story goes, Resistnet.com sent out an email promoting “Liberty Concerts” set up by TeaParty.org and the owner of the site, Dale Robertson. But then bloggers were told about this photo of Dale Robertson at a Teabagger Rally on Feb 28th:
teapartypic
Note that he was kicked out of the rally for the sign, but just look at his sign. Expecially look at how the misspelled racial slur seems to be taped over that part of the sign, making me wonder what he possibly could be covering up. But I’m just weird like that.

Later Resistnet quickly sent out this follow up email message:

This is in response to the blast mail you received regarding the Liberty Concert being promoted by the National Tea Party group. The purpose of the email was to share an opportunity for you to experience the fellowship and company of
other conservatives, as we kick off the election season and strive to
take back America, restoring it to the Constitutional Republic it is
meant to be. While they are a separate group from us, we share many of
the same goals, a free, conservative America, and fiscal responsibility
within our government. We are not necessarily promoting their complete ideology.

And all information about the “Liberty Concerts” seems to have been completely scrubbed from the site (or their search is acting dumber than usual)

In any event, this is probably very embarrassing, thus, we’re reporting on it, even if we are late a bit. Darn us having lives and contributing to the economy!

Source and our own emails

Here is the full text of the email, for posterity’s sake.

Teaparty.org is inviting all of you to take part in their Liberty Concerts:

Tea Party Taking The Next Step

“We are setting the tone for taking back America with Liberty Concerts. We are not waiting until the first quarter of the year, we have already begun.” Dale Robertson, President and Founder of the Tea Party – TeaParty.org

‘Liberty Concerts’ is a venue designed to be the key to create a model for our Nation to Take Back America. The Tea Party does not intend to waste their time simply rallying. The Plan is to optimize the events, they will be fun and Citizens will be asked to run for office, with the focus of Restoring America, and thus, putting it on the Conservative track.

The goal is to shift attendees from being merely a presence at a rally, into involved Patriots recognizing the need to be engaged in the process of Self-Governance.
The Tea Party is gearing up for action. Robertson has a developing strategy to bring the Republic back under the control of ‘We The People.’ He is asking for thousands of Patriots across America, to run for office.

Robertson stated: “Even though the likelihood of their success is diminished by the lack of experience or financial support; the knowledge will be invaluable for the next election cycle and a point of pride for the American People.”

The Tea Party’s number one imperative, is to have candidates on the ballot. The second priority is to get out the vote, especially in Texas where Robertson lives and the home of over 800,000 members of the Tea Party……….

Robertson is molding the Tea Party events to empower Citizens so they will make a difference in the November 2010 elections. The ongoing tactics are to prioritize States, creating a durable model for ballot access, voter eligibility, precinct chair/county chairs, and candidate awareness. The Tea Party is actively seeking candidates that represent Conservative Constitutional Values. It appears the Major Parties can’t get in step with such a complex idea as Conservative Constitutional Values; therefore, the Tea Party will make it easy for the Independent Parties to break the glass ceiling and get on the ballot.

The ‘Liberty Concerts’ event taking place in Stafford, Texas is a developing prototype, which when successful, will allow the Tea Party to create a thriving event not in months but days. We will be quick on the draw, sure fired and ready to rock in a matter of only a few days. This Tea Party formula will work against incredible odds and will be nothing short of a miracle, but Robertson believes with all his heart all the pieces will fall into place.

Does the Tea Party really believe it can make a difference in November? “Some say, “talk is cheap” but 2 years ago when I started the modern day Tea Party no one believed it could work now 7 million strong, the world is listening and America is hoping, we will not fail.” Dale Robertson – TeaParty.org

The Dredges of the Tea Party

One horrible thing that tea lovers like me have had to deal with in 2009 was a bunch of idiots having “tea parties” and teabagging each other because they are crybaby losers. It’s almost enough to make me spit out my earl grey in disgust and break out the lattes. Not really, as I don’t drink earl grey, it’s all about the fancy smoky black leaf Sudanese blend I got from the tea store that closed recently, but regardless, the Tea Party Movement is a fractured mess of astroturfing, grassroots snakes, GOP pandering, and lobbyist takeovers.

There is a lot of in-fighting and rival groups within the teabaggers. HuffPost has a good overview of the various major players. One such player is the Tea Party Express, who you might remember as the dingbats on the bus who were traveling the nation and hanging out in Wal-Mart parking lots so angry old white people could yell. Now the Tea Party Express have done the grassroots thing and spent $1600 for dinner for 6. That’s your Real Patriots right there, ripping off their fellow man for steak that better be panda for that price. They’ve also managed to give almost half of the $2 million they raised this year($857,000) to consulting firm Russo Marsh or people connected to it. So dig deep, teabaggers, consulting firms need your moolah to buy more panda steaks! BTW, Grassfire.org help sponsors the Tea Party Express, and they employ the Shirley & Banister Public Affairs PR firm as well as front the astroturf group Resistnet.com, who you may have heard of on TarsTarkas.NET at some point…

On a final note, you can watch this abomination: Tea Party: The Documentary Film.

I know we review bad movies on TarsTarkas.NET, but I haven’t found a way to watch it without giving them money yet.

Just wait until the Alice in Wonderland film gets released and the teabaggers hijack the Mad Hatter images like they’ve hijack the Joker Obama photoshop. Ah, teabaggers, so predictable, so baggable…
