The Lego films are going to be damn awesome!!

The Lego film seems like it will be amaza-tastic! Also damn awesome, since that’s what I wrote in the headline. Co-directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) and featuring voices of many a talented actor: Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Morgan Freeman, Will Arnett, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson, Nick Offerman, and Alison Brie.

There will be largely animated with a few live-action components. Lego: The Piece of Resistance will also feature Superman and Batman in the same film, showing that a cartoon can do in theaters what Warner Brothers is too stupid to pull off themselves for decades! Other rumored licensed Lego properties for cameos include Yoda and Indiana Jones. The film is tracking so well they’ve bumped up the release date, from February 28, 2014, to February 7, 2014. That’s still way too long for impatient me.

Regular Lego figure Emmet (Chris Pratt) is mistakenly identified as the key to saving the Lego world and he’s forced to go on a quest to stop an evil tyrant. President Business (Will Ferrell) is the evil CEO who is too evil to manage his personal life correctly, and Bad Cop (Liam Neeson) is his henchman.

If you can’t get enough of Lego Superman and Lego Batman, then you are in luck, as there is also going to be a Lego Batman DTV flick with Superman guest starring! The trailer released is pretty much just cut scenes from the video game, but the story so far is there will be new animation in addition to these cut scenes to make a full film. So we will see. Even the cast list for LEGO Batman: The Movie is the same for the rumored voices in the Lego: The Piece of Resistance – Will Arnett as Batman and Channing Tatum as Superman. This is like synergy or something. I hope they make Lego films for those awesome monster hunters sets I see at the stores.

The Huntresses – upcoming Korean Female Three Muskateers flick!

An action comedy filming now in Korea is The Huntresses (조선미녀 삼총사 – Joseonminyeo Samchongsa, which translates to The Joseon Beautiful Three Musketeers) It is a period piece and as you can see from the costume concept art above will have a stylized look.

Set in the Joseon Period, three beautiful musketeers fight against a powerful group who tries to overturn the royal family and gain absolute power. The leader of the Beautiful Three Musketeers is Jin-Ok (Ha Ji-Won), a smart and righteous woman. Hong-Dan (Kang Ye-Won) is the only married woman among the three women. Ga-Bi (Son Ga-In from Brown Eyed Girls) is the youngest among the musketeers and excels at fighting.

Ha Ji-Won’s Jin-Ok builds all sorts of unique weapons and is a master of disguise. Ga-In’s fight before talk character uses those weapons, including a yo-yo that has appeared in some publicity art. Oddly enough, that’s caused some people to freak out. Didn’t they see that episode of The Simpsons with the yo-yos? Kang Ye-Won’s married character is a throwing knife expert who can’t do housework and is the funny one. They are mentored by a character played by Go Chang-Suk, who is described as more comic relief. Their main rival will be played by heartthrob Joo Sang-Wook as Sa Hyun, a warrior with superb martial art skills.

Park Je-Hyun is directing, and filming has just started, thus the lack of real images at this time beyond a social media photo below.

Samchongsa is also what Charlie’s Angels was called in Korea, so you can probably figure out the vibe they are going for from that.

Get inked with Tatua

Comic book writers are now just skipping writing the comic book and going directly to screenplays, as evidenced by Tatua, a new flick from Paul Jenkins and Rob Prior about a guy who can use his tattoos as weapons, making him a powerful covert assassin dude. Kellan Lutz of Twilight fame is set to star. Paul Layden turned the concept into a script for Aaron Sims to direct.

The concept certainly is unusual, as the tattooed weapons are culled from the combination of the ink, the character’s blood and adrenaline. They must be used quickly or they begin to dissolve, and the whole process takes a toll on the body of the assassin. All this becomes an afterthought when the assassin’s son is kidnapped by one of his most notoriously violent targets. The film will bear a budget around $15 million and all distribution rights are available.

Hey, if you got some spare change and want to distribute, here is an opportunity for you! The rest of us will just have to wait until this hits theaters or watch Elektra where that guy had the same powers.

Tyra Banks to return in Life-Size 2

But isn’t Tyra bigger than life now? Not any more, thus her return to this character after a 12 year absence. Not only is Tyra returning as Eve the living doll, but she’s also executive producing and will sing the song from the original film, Be A Star.

In the original Disney Channel movie Life-Size, tomboy and football star Lindsay Lohan used witchcraft to try to resurrect her dead mother, only to have things get complicated and an Eve doll to be brought to life instead, played by Tyra Banks. Lohan scrambles to find a spell to destroy this soulless abomination and return to her necromancer ways, but by then Eve has developed into a real person and every character learns lessons and junk. Then Eve returns to doll form because she’s homesick, not because humanity is a disease and she’d rather not exist than live in this hell.

Lindsay Lohan then grew up to be a trainwreck. I’m not saying the two are connected, but…

No word on if Lohan will be back, but probably not in anything more than a cameo role while the newest shipment from the Disney Channel child actor factory will be cast as the lead. Not that this needs many recurring characte3rs, it should be like the Mannequin films where the only returning person is Hollywood. Nobody else is attached yet, but expect this to hit the DTV airwaves in 2013.

Get Drafted into The Forever War

Joe Haldeman’s classic book The Forever War inches closer to actually becoming a real film, and not just a story that fills industry publication pages for forty years. Ridley Scott has been attached to direct since 2008, something he’s wanted to do since the novel was first published in 1974, but the rights were tied up almost forever. Finally, Fox 2000 got them, and recently got around to hiring the writer of the upcoming All You Need is Kill, D.W. Harper, to write the adaptation.

If you haven’t read the book, what are you waiting for??? An engraved invitation from the Taurans? Sheesh. Please excuse my SciFi Lit snobbishness. So anyway, The Forever War is about a soldier who goes to war fighting aliens called Taurans, but thanks to relativity effects from light speed the travel time takes decades, the aliens attack with ever-increasing technological weapons, and Earth is radically different each time he returns. Which causes the soldiers to reenlist and reenlist because Earth is more alien than the aliens. Eventually things get 1970s weird, and the whole books is a commentary on the Vietnam War. It’s often called a response to Heinlein’s Starship Troopers, and even features a Filipino main character and power armor, but Haldeman has denied that.

Jeremiah Harm – Create an alien for this film, you lazy goobers!

Jeremiah Harm is a comic series about a space bounty hunter sent to Earth to hunt alien criminals (and is totally not Abraxas, don’t ever think that!) and it has hit the jackpot because it’s now optioned for a flick. In fact, the film is so far along that test footage surfaced within a week of the deal being announced. Timo Vuorensola, the director of Iron Sky and the Star Wreck flick is attached, with fellow Iron Sky alum Tero Kaukomaa along to produce with Arnold Rifkin and Ross Richie. All this Iron Sky talk makes me remember I haven’t watched Iron Sky yet. Maybe some day…

The plan is to crowdsource a lot of Jeremiah Harm’s budget, which will totally tap into that huge Jeremiah Harm audience. Like me, a guy who never heard of the comic until this deal was announced and is only following it in case it turns into a fiasco or a golden ticket. If it’s a mediocre middle, I have no use for Jeremiah Harm. In any event, I’m not giving it any crowdsourcing money.

What you can do is go to JeremiahHarm.com and create aliens for the film. That’s actually far more interesting than giving them the loose change you find in the couch minus Kickstarter fees, and maybe I’ll make an alien for the film. With lots of teeth. On his butt!
