Libertarian "Silver Circle"jerk flick somehow exists, slowly coming to a theater near you

Silver Circle is destined to be one of those films that makes Foodfight! look like a slightly better version of Foodfight! Hold on to your bitcoins and Ron Paul body pillows, because this movie’s gonna be crazy!

Luckily, the Free Market demands this film, and it came fully backed by titans of industry…. And by that, I mean they were begging for handouts on Kickstarter! Expanding on that, they claim a $1.6 million overall budget with a mix of donations and self-funding. How much is what, I did not find on a quick read through on the site or on the video interview I watched.

Here is the plot synopsis from various parts of the official site.

When the dollar loses its place as the world’s reserve currency, the Federal Reserve steps in to “protect” the nation.
Inflation has skyrocketed and families are suffering everywhere. With prices 20 times the prices of today (2013), the economy is quickly sinking, and leaders are taking advantage of the vulnerability of their citizens.

The Fed creates the Department of Housing Stability which is suppose to “stabilize” home prices; it expands and contracts the housing supply by force, leaving people homeless. The question keeps resurfacing: Can the very reason we got here be the answer to get us out? Join the Rebels in this film to find the answers.

At the center of corruption is the Federal Reserve who has gained enormous amounts of control over America’s economy, with disastrous effects beginning to show.

Standing opposite, is the band of Rebels who have vowed to take back the freedom they once knew…and they won’t go down without a fight.

Monetary mayhem. Explosions. Romance. Silver Circle plans to take indie animation to a whole other level.

The rebels fight the power by making their own alternative currency out of silver, hence all that silver stuff. Further things are explained in this interview with the filmmaker which is filled with the usual Libertarian paranoia. Pasha Roberts is the guy pulling things all together. While I applaud indie animation and the fact this film was finished and didn’t end in a pile of rubble and lawsuits, that’s about all the praise I’m willing to spare on a philosophy that would turn the world into Ethiopia.

Somewhere you can donate to sponsor a screening in your home town, but it’s not on the link provided so I don’t know how much it costs. Hopefully that gets fixed and a screening will show up in a theater near you! Remember, they only accept silver, gold, and electrum.

The Huntresses gets trailerized!

A lot of news happened while we were on break. One thing was The Huntresses (조선미녀 삼총사 – Joseonminyeo Samchongsa, which translates to The Joseon Beautiful Three Musketeers) picked up a trailer that popped up on AsianWiki, which was then reblogged on every site that gets it’s news from AsianWiki (or from sites that copy news from sites that get news from AsianWiki. But take it from Tars, it’s much better to get the water directly from the source!) As we’ve been covering this flick since filming began, it’s only fair that the trailer get a view here as well!

Set in the Joseon Period, three beautiful musketeers fight against a powerful group who tries to overturn the royal family and gain absolute power. The leader of the Beautiful Three Musketeers is Jin-Ok (Ha Ji-Won), a smart and righteous woman. Hong-Dan (Kang Ye-Won) is the only married woman among the three women. Ga-Bi (Son Ga-In from Brown Eyed Girls) is the youngest among the musketeers and excels at fighting.

Warwick Davis cameos in Bhojpuri film Chingari!

One thing you don’t expect to see in a trailer for a Bhojpuri language film is Warwick Davis, but that’s just what is happening here in the trailer for Chingari! Besides Warwick Davis, Karl Pilkington also appears. He’s the host of An Idiot Abroad, a travel show on Sky in the UK, which from what I’ve seen is him complaining non-stop. There is even a show dedicated to them going over and filming their scenes! Davis will play a journalist who does a documentary on the Bihar police. From the trailer, you can see there is a bad dude threatening the town and the police chief is reluctant to do anything.

And if you are wondering, yes Warwick Davis dances.

Chingari is directed by Shrey Shrivastav. There was a completely different Chingari (in Kannada language) that came out last year that is basically a remake of Taken.

Why are Parkour and Paul Walker so popular now?

Oliver Twist Gruel

Please, sir, can I have some more terrible Hollywood adaptations?

When you think of things that are mysteriously popular, you don’t think of parkour or Paul Walker, because those things are never popular. Except they suddenly are, and it’s weird!

Those two great tastes have gone all chocolate and peanut butter on us, and combined to give us the Paul Walker vehicle Brick Mansions. If that sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because Brick Mansions is the American remake of Banlieue 13! Don’t worry, Banlieue 13 star and parkour creator David Belle will be around to costar in case anyone wants to go all Punisher: War Zone on them. And you should.

The film will be set in America. Walker will play an undercover detective chasing a weapon of mass destruction that was stolen by a drug dealer in the ghetto known as Brick Mansions. He seeks help from the incredibly agile Lino (Belle), who knows Brick Mansions better than anyone and is the only person not cowed by the drug dealers. Besson’s Europa Corp is producing along with Ryan Kavanaugh, Tucker Tooley and the Relativity team. While a number of Hollywood actors wanted the Lino role, Besson would not make the movie unless Belle was in it.

Let’s not forget the parkour Oliver Twist movie (funded by Red Bull!) called Twist that’s also coming soon! I bring this up not only for the parkour reference, but because there is another Oliver Twist movie coming down the pipe.

Dodge and Twist takes place as a now adult Oliver and Artful Dodger are on opposite sides of the law in a theft of the Crown Jewels case. So it’s one of those films.

Paul Walker is also starring in the Hitman remake, Agent 47. The original Hitman came out in 2007, with Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47. Skip Woods and Michael Finch are writing, you might recall that Skip Woods wrote the original Hitman. that’s the kind of outside the box thinking that will make Agent 47 the kind of movie you don’t rent from RedBox.

Vampire Academy fast-tracked, to suck even faster now!

Vampire Academy

Suck blood, that is! I’ll reserve judgement on the actual Vampire Academy series until they come out. That way, we’ll really know if it sucks or if it bites! The Weinstein Company picked up the US distribution rights for the first film in the series – Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters.

For those not down with your YA lit, the six Vampire Academy books are by Richelle Mead, and there is a six-book spinoff series called Bloodlines that’s currently on book 3 now. The film will be directed by Mark Waters and written by his brother Dan Waters.

In BLOOD SISTERS Rose Hathaway develops a mental and spiritual bond with her BVFF (best vampire friend forever) Princess Lissa. The two girls attend a strict school for vampires designed to retain their humanity where it is Rose’s task to protect the Princess. Among the everyday issues faced by teenage vampires Rose falls for Dimitri, their dreamy guardian, and together the three battle the mysterious forces of the evil Moroi who are set on destroying the Princess’s bloodline.‬

Zoey Deutch, Lucy Fry, and Danila Kozlovsky are the three leads Rose Hathaway, Lissa Dragomir, and Dimitri Belikov.

Expect a very merry Valentine’s Day next year, as Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters hits theaters February 14, 2014.
