Rajinikanth goes digital for Kochadaiiyaan!

Remember superstar Rajinikanth from the crossover hit Enthiran (Robot) that introduced the rest of the world to the Tamil film legend? Well, now he’s back in CGI motion capture form! Yes, while Rajinikanth the man is 62 and in and out of hospitals, Rajinikanth the megastar has a nice new young CGI body with which he can kick the crap out of all sorts of dudes.

Kochadaiiyaan is compared to Avatar in the marketing, though with the older actor given a younger body and entire motion-capture framework, it is most similar to Beowulf. Rajinikanth will play three roles, and teaser footage has been released to show off some of the effects work. The female lead is 27 year old Deepika Padukone, which means Rajinikanth is only 35 years older than her. Rajinikanth plays father and son Kochadaiiyaan and Rana, and Rana is a character that Rajinikanth was set to play in a postponed film, of which Kochadaiiyaan is now considered a prequel. Other cast members include R. Sarathkumar, Shobana, Aadhi, Rukmini Vijayakumar, Jackie Shroff, and Nassar

An interesting note on Kochadaiiyaan is the director is Soundarya R. Ashwin, Rajinikanth’s younger daughter! When your dad is one of the biggest stars in Asia, glass ceiling shatter themselves. There is a nice interview with her at Times of India. This is the second attempt to do a motion-capture Rajinikanth film, the first was called Sultan: The Warrior, but that project fell through.

This film looks pretty ridiculous, but Rajinikanth is very popular and the teaser footage shot up in views like wildfires. So maybe it will be a smash hit. I personally don’t care if it is ludicrous, as long as it is entertaining, I will be there will bells on!

When beloved Debbie Martin commits suicide, her preacher husband Andrew grieves alongside the whole town and especially Debbie’s mom, Susan. At first Susan doesn’t want to believe them, but when mounting evidence can no longer be denied, she has to admit that she now believes Andrew killed Debbie and sets out to prove it. And so begins a battle that eventually tears the town apart. Inspired by a true story.

And a reminder that Sins of the Preacher is part of Lifetime’s Watch and Win Sweepstakes, which mean you can actually get paid to watch! Where’s our bribe for watching Robocroc, SyFy? Besides the bribe of watching a movie called Robocroc!

RoboCroc ushers in the return of Saturday Creature Features on SyFy!

Robocroc

SyFy returns their creature feature films to saturdays, beginning this Saturday (September 14th) with RoboCroc! Yes, the plot is what you think: an alien space nanobot turns a crocodile into a cyborg killing machine. UFO International Productions is who to thank for this masterpiece. Corin Nemec and Dee Wallace star. The trailer is available on SyFy’s site.

As we reported back in the day about RoboCroc‘s plot (SPOILERS!):

When a top-secret unmanned spacecraft disintegrates on re-entry, its mysterious military payload crash-lands in the crocodile habitat of a place called Adventure Land, a combination water park, amusement land and world famous crocodile exhibit. Following its pre-programmed instructions, the payload – a next-generation nanotech-based combat
drone – finds a host in the form of the park’s prize twenty-foot Australian Saltwater crocodile, Stella. She is the largest Saltwater croc in captivity. Immediately upon infecting its host, the drone payload’s nanobots begin to transform Stella from an organic, living creature into a lethal killing machine with only a single directive: Survival!

Before Chief Zoo Keeper Tim Duffy and reptile biologist Jane Spencer are able to figure out what’s going on, they find the park taken over by the government team responsible for the secret project. As the crocodile continues to transform, it escapes the crocodile exhibit and enters the water park, running amok, killing dozens of patrons.

The park is evacuated, but a handful of teens are trapped behind – including among them, Duffy’s estranged son. Duffy and Jane set out to rescue Duffy’s son while the government team and military personnel scramble to stop the rapidly evolving croc but nothing works. After their best efforts fail, the now fully-evolved ROBOCROC escapes the park and rampages further forcing a massive military deployment to stop it. Still following its prime directive: RoboCroc enters the city sewer system. With time running out, only Duffy has the knowledge and experience that will allow him to get close enough to the croc to destroy it.

In a desperate gambit, Duffy enters the sewer system armed with his knowledge of crocodile behavior and a tactical Electromagnetic Pulse Generator. Finally, after a terrifying confrontation in the bowels of the city and with his own life on the line, Duffy detonates the EMP and destroys RoboCroc and the nanobots once and for all.

Tom Yum Goong 2 trailers and posters

Media for the upcoming Tom Yum Goong 2 has begun appearing online. First up was a first trailer, followed by the above-embedded second teaser. In addition, the Tom Yum Goong 2 facebook page has been posting character posters, which are posted below. There are posters for Tony Jaa as Kham, Jija Yanin as Pingping (who uses flying needles), Petchai Wongkamlao as Sgt. Mark, Ying Ratha as No. 20, RZA as Mr. LC, and Marrese Crump as No. II. The stunts look amazing, and I hope this troubled production pulls together and turns into something magical. Really pulling for this one.

A Sister's Nightmare this Saturday on Lifetime!

A Sister's Nightmare

She’s serving broccoli, that’s the real nightmare!

If you liked Stoker and wanted to watch a made-for-tv version of a similar tale, then A Sister’s Nightmare is your Lifetime fix this Saturday at 8 (7 central).

Sibling rivalry returns to torment Jane, a young police officer, after her older sister Cass is released from the state hospital for the criminally insane. Cass begins showing an increasing interest in getting back her daughter whom Jane has been raising. Unable to convince others her sister is still dangerous, and wanting to protect her niece, the young police officer takes matters into her own hands and goes after her sister herself.

Yes, Natasha Henstridge plays the criminally insane sister Cass. So I’m just going to imagine this is an offshoot of the Species movies. Do we still use “criminally insane” to describe people these days? Kelly Rutherford, Peyton List, and Matthew Settle also star.

As an added bonus, there is a code that will air during the premiere that you can use to enter in a Lifetime sweepstakes for $1000. Lifetime, the network that bribes– I mean, the network that pays!
