The good Susan Herbet

The one bonus of Susan Herbert’s crazy lawsuit is Googling Susan Herbert lead me to this cool cat painter named Susan Herbert. I doubt this is the same Susan Herbert, but regardless, cat paintings like this are just hilarious. So kudos to Susan Herbert!

Bring It On – The Musical!

Bring It On, the cheerleading franchise which just had a fifth installment hit DVD shelves this month, is now getting a musical! Yes! Set 2011 as the date that Claire from Heroes will probably ditch the show and star in this. She already headlined one of the sequels!

Variety sez:

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tom Kitt — recent Tony winners for “In the Heights” and “Next to Normal,” respectively — will compose the music, with Amanda Green (“High Fidelity”) providing lyrics. Jeff Whitty (“Avenue Q”) pens the book.

Andy Blankenbuehler, choreographer of “Heights” and “9 to 5,” will get his first director-choreographer credit with the production. “Heights” alum Alex Lacamoire will be orchestrator, arranger and music supervisor.

California Raisins Puppets – Where are they now?

Back in the day, the California Raisins were awesome. I recorded the commercials, I got the Hardee’s toys (both the small plastic toys and the much larger felt dolls with wires in the arms) I bought the cassette tapes (and still have them stored away somewhere) and even had a promotional poster that came with one of the albums that hung on the wall next to my MUSCLEs poster. There was also various TV specials, including Meet the Raisins and the sequel The Raisins Sell Out that we taped off of tv (oddly enough, I now own both of the specials on VHS tapes I got at goodwill stores recently for $1) they also lead to a cartoon series on saturday mornings for one season. Eventually, the California Raisins died down and faded away, despite a brief attempt to bring them back in 2002 or so. But I will always fondly remember them. And thus, I found an article on AnimateClay.com where the author got some of the original puppets used in the claymation specials. As that was over a decade ago, the puppets were in bad shape. In fact, they look downright creepy. But it is interesting to read about how they were created, how they were built, and how they were animated. There is some cool background information here, and if you are into that or just like seeing creepy decayed puppets, check it out!

The V remake is offically a remake

I am not sure what the frak was going through the minds of the studio when they were trying to claim that the upcoming V remake series wasn’t a remake of the miniseries! Of course, the WGA said “I don’t think so!” and got original series creator Kenneth Johnson credit. Granted, the new series looks terrible in a way where the creators don’t seem to have understood at all that the original was a Holocaust parable. At least we had the novelization that concluded the original story (after ignoring V: The Final Battle) The simple fact that they renamed the aliens as Vs proves they missed the point entirely. The best part of this story is the V fan website I got it off of looks like a 1990s Geocities website that would be screaming about secret Grey Reptillian infiltrators secretly controlling the government. That’s just awesome. Web 2.0 ruined the internet.
