The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag by Robert Heinlein is slated for a movie, directed by Alex Proyas – the director of I, Robot (so you know it’s going to be good!) Heinlein’s novella first came out in 1942, and from a tad bit of research I’ve found this film was announced in 2011, though by the fact it is making the rounds again must mean it is movie forward. As the story is not one often cited by libertarians or people who want to go back in time and have sex with their mother, it might actually be a good film! At the very least, people will say it’s ripping off Dark City and Paycheck, and that’s all that really matters…
the plot:
Heinlein’s story follows the title character as he suddenly realizes he has no idea what he does for a living and has no memory of his daytime activities. Understandably freaked out, he contacts a husband-and-wife detective agency and hires them to follow him during the day to find out what he’s been up to. The result is a web of dark mystery, beginning with warnings from some shady characters that the detectives should stop before they find something they shouldn’t see.
