January 4, 2010 at 1:26 pmHef Tarkas! ha!
look at how ‘Tars’ right tusk is not even attached to the mask when John is strangling him….. it seems the oh so powerful choke hold ripped off the tusk causing it to fall off completely once Tars was pushed to the ground. I imagine it was going to take too long to reattach it, so they had to use the only take they got…
p.s. there ‘probably’ was a ‘neck wrangler’ on set for the mask once it started to go, but considering it was a dozen people in a dozen days for a few dozen dollars (which if you don’t know, is quite an amazing accomplishment!)….the neck wrangler probably missed the re-tucking of a few hanging flappy neck moments…. also, there probably was a ‘second mask’ that got fucked up in the mold, destroying the mold, and there wasn’t enough time to make a fresh one….
the true spirit of independent purposefully bad sci-fi movies, my friend!
(I trust that the purposefully bad part came across in certain portrayals ::coughs:: ) … if they didn’t do such an earnest cut of the film, it could have been quite awesome and campy!!!! some had signed on hoping it was going to be so bad it was good again….it didn’t quite make the mark, leaving it floating somewhere in the so bad it’s almost* good again arena…
with an underfunded, rushed production that went from script (or something like a script) to shelf in 3 months!, JC never memorizing lines, Tal being a legit 350 lb dude who had recently lost 350 lbs, an ex porn star being the most professional actor on set..err, the only one who was taking it seriously anyway… and of course the cross between Warf, Louis Gossett Jr, a young Sean Connery, and a cave troll that was Tars Tarkas himself! … How could this not have turned out to be pure gold? I mean in all fairness it is the 99th most popular movie on IMDB right now, so….. any publicity….
loved the article by the way!
Best,
Tars Tarkas
January 4, 2010 at 10:10 pmYes, Asylum is not known for letting their campy films be campy, they keep trying to make everything serious. It is a shame.
The behind the scenes stories are cool, guy who may or may not be Matt Lasky! I think this one will generate a sequel or two, so we might see the further adventures of Antonio, Porn Star, and Raggedy Mask!
Thanks!
