A friendly Samurai Cop 2 Kickstarter reminder!

[adrotate banner=”1″]I’m sure you heard by now that the greatest movie ever made, Samurai Cop, has a sequel in production and has launched a kickstarter! So just in case you lived in a cave, now you know. For those of you not in a cave, now you got a reminder! If you’ve never seen Samurai Cop, then you need to stop whatever you are doing and go watch it. I don’t care if lives depend on you doing stuff, Samurai Cop is more important! Okay, maybe not, but as soon as no one will die, go watch Samurai Cop a couple dozen times. Then open up your wallets for Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance!

Not only has Matt Hannon returned from the dead to become Samurai Cop Joe Marshall again, but Mark Frazer is also returning as Frank Washington! Melissa Moore also returns as Peggy, and they managed to also get original cast members Cranston Komuro, Gerald Okamura, and Robert Z’Dar to also appear. I’m not sure if they will be reincarnated versions of their classic characters, or original characters who all happen to be identical twins of those killed last time.

It’s 25 years later, and Detective Frank Washington is forced to team up with his long estranged partner Joe Marshall to solve a series of assassinations being committed by a secret group of female vigilante killers.

There is also a whole host of new stars, including some classic people and a bunch of porn stars who readers here will be familiar with due to their appearances in Retromedia and Jim Wynorski movies!

GEORGE LAZENBY (Agent 007 James Bond in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”)
ROBERT Z’DAR (“Samurai Cop,” “Maniac Cop,” “Tango & Cash”)
SEYMOUR CASSEL (Oscar Nominee, “Faces,” Wes Anderson films)
HENRY SILVA (Eurocrime genre actor, “The Manchurian Candidate,” “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai,” “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century”)
LAURENE LANDON (“Hundra,” “All The Marbles”)
KAYDEN KROSS (“Blue Dream”)
LEXI BELLE (Penthouse Pet of the Year, 2014)
NICOLE BAILEY (Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family)
KRISTINE DeBELL (“The Big Brawl,” “Meatballs”)
NICOLE D’ANGELO (“Blue Dream”)
STUART WHITMAN (“The Longest Day,” “Superboy,” “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines”)
EDDIE DEEZEN (“Grease,” “War Games.” “The Polar Express”)
SHANE RYAN (“Amateur Porn Star Killer”)
MATTHEW MAHANEY (“Days of Our Lives”)
JESSE HLUBIK (“May,” “I Know Who Killed Me”)
SEAN McNABB (“Quiet Riot”, “Dokken”)
NAOYUKI IKEDA (“Hunter”)
LISA LONDON (“Sudden Impact”)
MINDY ROBINSON (“Gym Rescue,” “V/H/S/2”)
RON BECKS (“Hunter”)
RAMZI ABED (“The Devil’s Muse”)
SHAUN PICCININO (“The Lackey,” “Bat In The Sun’s Super Power Beat Down”)
EDWIN A. SANTOS (“Mad Cowgirl”)
MAGDA MARCELLA (“Miracle Mile Girls”)
SHAWN C. PHILLIPS (“Dysmorphia,” “Ghost Shark”)

Now, a lot of older movies that get sequels often have the sequels be terrible, and many movies that became cult classics that got sequels later faced having sequels that were no good. So there is always the danger that this film will just be awful. But the cast seems very excited for it, and Samurai Cop is a film that it is almost impossible to live up to. But with the talent they are throwing in, the film will at least be so full of things happening that we won’t have time to catch our breath. Much like a good portion of the original, that had lots of awesome action sequences that just kept going and kept the funeral parlors in LA very busy with all the bodies.

The best news of this Kickstarter is Amir Shervan apparently had more than the three films he was known for (along with the foreign stuff) back when Samurai Cop was first discovered. Besides Samurai Cop, Hollywood Cop, and Killing American Style, there is also Young Rebels and Gypsy, the last one not having been seen anywhere before.

Regardless of outcome, I’m excited for this event, and have high hopes for the film!

Disclaimer: I plan on donating to this Kickstarter.

RiffTrax vs. Godzilla!

[adrotate banner=”1″]RiffTrax has announced a new Kickstarter so they can get the rights to riff on the 1998 terrible version of Godzilla! But not only is it great news, the Kickstarter was announced while I was waiting in line for a screening of the new 2014 Godzilla, and by the next morning had already reached its goal and then some! Which was all the excuse I needed to post this a bit later. So for those of you who missed the announcement or were putting it off and need a reminder: RiffTrax. Godzilla. Let’s do this!

Last time the goal was to get the money to do Twilight, but the result ended up being Starship Troopers. This time, they already have things set up to get Godzilla, so it will be Godzilla and not some random film. Because the Kickstarter has met its goal, the choice now is just what extras you want to get. There are digital shorts, gift certificates, t-shirts, and even a huge prize of the RiffTrax guys riffing your own film. It’s only 5 grand, why not have them make fun of you wedding? You’ll look fondly back on the video as you pay alimony because your wife dumped you for blowing the nest egg on her being insulted by guys from the internet.

There are plenty of cool stuff to get no matter your budget. And prepare yourselves for the RiffTrax Live Godzilla event, because it’s totally on now! So open up your wallets and donate, that insulin can wait a month!

Disclaimer: I will probably contribute to this Kickstarter, but haven’t done so at the time this post was published.

Good grief, I suck!

Jim Wynorski lands on Kickstarter for Sharkansas Women's Prison Massacre!

Sharkansas Women's Prison Massacre
[adrotate banner=”1″]In our continuing quest to post some Kickstarters I bookmarked while making fun of a certain uncool news site’s Kickstarter, up comes Jim Wynorski and Sharkansas Women’s Prison Massacre, coproduced by Polyscope Media Group out of Indiana. The title is something that seems destined to trend on Twitter when it airs on SyFy. Not only that, but Sharkansas features one of the top ten freakiest sharks, Helicoprion! Oddly enough, Jim and Fred Olen Ray did not conspire to both be on Kickstarter at the same time, it’s just an amazing coincidence!

Sharks on land! Hunting victims from just below the earth’s surface! Yes, you heard that right….prehistoric sharks are on the attack in Arkansas. And a shapely work gang from the women’s prison there suddenly find themselves at the center of the terrifying situation. A local fracking crew has accidently cracked open a section of the earth’s mantle, allowing a swarm of prehistoric land sharks to head upwards from an underground ocean in search of new victims. So after a suspenseful escape, the five gorgeous prisoners find themselves not only on the run from the law…but a horde of blood thirsty hell bent creatures as well. Trapped in a remote fishing cabin hundreds of miles from civilization, the curvy quintet must use both their wits and wiles to elude the jaws of death swimming just outside in the front yard. You’ll meet Honey, a fiery spinner armed with a smokin’ pair of .38s. Standing close by is her lover Anita, at once both sexy and psychotic. Shannon is the sweet, girl-next-door type…that is if you happen to live next door to a mental institution. Michelle is the girl from the ghetto, street-wise and savvy beyond her years. And finally there’s Sarah, the demolition expert; she’ll blow your mind if you get too close!

Sounds like much of the process is already figured out, they just need some moolah to finance the production. So if you are a fan of women prisoners battling prehistoric sharks, then you know what to do!

Spidora – Fred Olen Ray takes to Kickstarter for freak show short film!

Spidora
[adrotate banner=”1″]Browsing Kickstarter through the Movies category is its own measure of pain, what with the endless “dark” fan films and nerd convention documentaries seeking funding, drowning out the actual interesting projects. So it’s time to salute things that may be of interest to longtime readers of TarsTarkas.NET.

Illustrious filmmaker Fred Olen Ray has taken to Kickstarter to raise funds for a short film called Spidora. Now, we have reviewed a Fred Olen Ray movie or two (or 20), so you might say we are a fan. This will be Fred Olen Ray’s first short film, and the aim is for it to be theatrically released.

In a strange twilight world that exists between the light of day and the enveloping darkness a young drifter falls in love with a Freak Show Lobster Girl who believes that Spidora, the Spider Girl, is trying to kill her.

SPIDORA is a dark journey inside the world of Dr. Graves’ Palace of Illusions; a Museum of Human Oddities where mysterious creatures like Electra, Spidora and Mora, the Lobster Girl, command the stage. It is a world trapped between light and shadow where anything can happen… and does.

Yes, circus sideshows, Spider Girls, and Lobster Girls. Sounds fantastic. Ray is a big fan of circuses and sideshow (which has a long and interesting past association with B-movies and roadshow/drive-in cinema, another thing that Ray is very much a huge fan of!) Jerry Lacy is attached so far. So check out the project if you are so inclined. And hope it does better than “the darkest Joker Trilogy ever!!!”, an actual Kickstarter project I refuse to link to.

Uwe Boll takes Postal 2 to Kickstarter

Uwe Boll Boxing

Which online critics will he beat up this time???

[adrotate banner=”1″]Having run out of Nazi gold and tax loops, Uwe Boll is turning to the next best thing: getting money for free! Thus, he’s taken his latest film, Postal 2, to Kickstarter to get some of that sweet sweet crowdsourcing dollar! $500,000 to be exact. Now, Postal is considered by some to be Boll’s best movie, because he went balls deep on the offensive-o-meter. Myself, I’ve been too far jaded by the internet to get offended at much of anything anymore, and honestly haven’t bothered to watch much of Boll’s output (though I hear he’s improved and even made Assault on Wall Street – the only movie with the stones to blame the actual people behind the economic meltdown!)

Boll knows he’s considered a joke hack and isn’t taking this serious at all:

About the Movie

POSTAL 2 will finally destroy the filmindustry and the world we are living in. We could name the movie also HONEY BOOBOO must die ….but so many people deserve to die. Why starting with a child? Did Osama die? We know. And why the Navy Seals were too stupid to land a helicopter on a free field? Why did Building 6 collapse? We explain. Why is Obama is like Bush? We show you.

Where the money goes

The money goes all for cocaine for the stars down the nose.

Honesty is refreshing.

Now this:

POSTAL 2 will be a controversial comedy in which we take up current political issues. We take the biggest scandals of our democracy, like the happenings about Julien Assange and Edward Snowdon and show that there is no difference between our democracy and the prison camps in Russia or China. We show that through this massive monitoring our communication data is not safe anymore! We want to make a movie which is totally uncensored, pointed against everything and everybody, against every political party and every religion. There will be no survivors.

Promises something big, but can Boll deliver? Probably not, but if you like to give money to see a man try, you can Kickstarter the heck out of him.

Dark Roar is kids vs saber-toothed panther!

Dark Roar
[adrotate banner=”1″]There are never enough kids horror films. Not that society is any less horrible, it’s just that it is more taboo to expose things perfectly designed to star kids in horror situations, but yet perfectly acceptable to bring those same young kids to R rated movies full of murder and more murder. Enter Dark Roar, a take on the kids getting spooked genre where a pair of children encounter a genetically created saber-toothed panther that has a hunger for young kids. As they flee for their lives, we learn more about the corporate conspiracy that created the beast. Dark Roar was funded via Kickstarter, and is proving to be an actual Kickstarter success story as their movie is becoming reality. There are plenty of production pictures on the various Dark Roar sites.

It looks like some good fun, a type of creeping horror we don’t get too much of these days. It’s British origins and Kickstarter model means it will be a far cry from the standard SyFy fare, which would have seen actors from Stargate and a title like PantherTooth. Which isn’t a bad title, I’ll just steal my own idea right now…
