“Their debut feature film is in a class of it’s own. About a giant squid that terrorises a New Year’s Eve cruise on the Brisbane River, the film $quid, which is the brainchild of Brisbane Boys Daley Pearson & Luke Tierney even has it’s own genre.

“We’re calling it a Romster Comedy.”

Deep Sea Monster Raiga trailer

NipponCinema sez:

This one is set 60 years after the original, in modern-day Tokyo. Global warming causes the southern polar ice cap to gradually melt, disrupting the ecosystem and luring ancient sea monsters to Japan. Eventually an enormous sea beast called Raiga enters Asakusa via the Sumida River and begins wreaking havoc on the buildings there.

I am totally NOT Godzilla! What would make you think such a thing?

Trailer for Onechanbara: vorteX at NipponCinema

[adrotate banner=”1″]NipponCinema continues to be on top of everything coming out of Japan, complete with their update over a trailer for Onechanbara: vorteX that has shown up on CDJapan. And I still haven’t watched my copy of the first one!

In this incarnation 24-year-old gravure idol Yuu Tejima takes over the role of Aya (played by Eri Otoguro in the first movie) as she once again teams up with her stepsister Saki (Akari Ozawa) and the leather-clad Reiko (Rika Kawamura) to take on a new enemy named Himiko who’s in control of a zombie army.

Neko Ramen Taisho is coming!

[adrotate banner=”7″]Minoru Kawasaki has another crazy film with Neko Ramen Taisho, based on the manga serial Neko Ramen by Kenji Sonishi. The director of Monster X Strikes Back: Attack the G8 Summit and Executive Koala now brings us a film about a cat who operates a Ramen noodle stand. The cat is played by a puppet, but don’t worry, there will be real cats in the film, including famous feline Tama (the cat who runs a train station) Also, it looks like the English title of this might be Pussy Soup, which I think is stupid.

Plot listing

“Taishô’s father is a supermodel cat, and everybody believes that Taishô will be a supermodel as well. His family has great expectations of him, because he is the eldest son, but he can’t bear all the pressure and runs away from home. Unfortunately, he has no clue how to survive on his own, having always been fed and pampered as a model cat. Taishô passes from one job to another, homeless, until he finds his place in a noodle shop, where he becomes a successful cook.”

The film was released in theaters in Japan on Novermber 29th of 2008, and has made a few film festivals. It comes out on DVD on May 29th in Japan!
