This trailer looks better, has more Martians and action. Will have a more detailed analysis soon, but for now I am Tars Tarkas of Stuck at Work.
The “John Carter of” jokes will never stop, by the way. Get used to them!
[adrotate banner=”1″]Check out this Apple Gallery of resolution images for the John Carter (of Mars, dammit!) film, including the recently released images. And a brand new poster. That looks better than the previous poster. This is all leading up to the new trailer that comes out Thursday. The higher-resolution stills look waaaaaay better bigger, but it still looks a lot like Episode 1, between the CGI aliens and the craft that looks like a podracer. If John Carter says “Yippee!!”, I’m burning down the planet.

[adrotate banner=”1″]A still of John Carter from John Carter (of Mars, dammit!) fighting a White Ape has showed up on Entertainment Weakly’s blog (spelled incorrectly on purpose because I’m a jerk!)
I am glad that they kept the scale of the White Apes accurate (the cover art on the books rarely has the apes big enough), but for a true confession: I went to the theater recently and the John Carter trailer started playing. I had no idea what it was and got bored and stopped paying attention until i realized it was the John Carter trailer I saw months ago. It just doesn’t have that excitement of trailers that are awesome. Maybe I’m just being overly jaded from decades of disappointment from entertainment. Or maybe I’m a big jerk! Oh, well. So enjoy this picture of a huge monkey!

[adrotate banner=”1″]If you were lucky/connected enough to get to go to D23 Expo – Disney’s showoff party for their D23 fanclub – then you got to see some footage from the new John Carter (of Mars, dammit!) movie. Reports are on both io9 and AICN, but as both of those sites seem to be competing on who can mindlessly love everything ever even slightly nerdy, take their enthusiasm with a grain of bitter reality. Luckily, AICN’s report is by Quint, the least impressed by shiny things of the writers there.
Taylor Kitsch, Willem Dafoe and Lynn Collins were with director Andrew Stanton as he showed the footage.
I still have the same basic problem with footage I’ve already seen (in that Mars isn’t nearly fantastic enough…
…
However Woola’s introduction scene they showed today is the very first thing I’ve seen from Stanton’s John Carter that I love without reservation.
The rest of the footage they described back in July, around the same time others got first looks.
Before Stanton and the actors left the D23 stage, they played one last bit of footage. Carter and Tarkas finds themsleves in a Thark arena about to be executed. Tarkas is badly injured and Carter’s leg is chained to a rock. A colossal, six-limbed white ape is then released. It charges them, swatting them out of the way like gnats. Carter recovers and starts leaping over the white ape. He seems about ready to break the chain tying him to the rock, which is when a rather bored-sounding Thark in the stands declares, “Release the other one.”

D23? I haven't seen the first 22 D's!
[adrotate banner=”1″]In a world where Taylor Kitsch and Eric Northman are brothers, the US Navy will fight alien boats that look like rejects from Transformers. Under a dome force field. And Liam Neeson is there. But not Rhianna, despite all the hoopla about this being her first movie (which it isn’t even!) And also the navy is using battleships despite them all being retired. I’m getting a Battle: Los Angeles vibe, meaning a generic action film that is neither awful nor good.
The only thing I liked was the alien missiles look like pegs from the board game.
