Clifford the Big Red Movie

[adrotate banner=”1″]Clifford, the gigantic freak canine whose appearance has delighted children for decades and somehow has not caused him to be drown in a lake by crazed religious nuts as some sort of demon dog, will soon be a feature length commer– film from the people who brought you The Lorax – Illumination Entertainment and Universal. Matt Lopez of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice fame will write the script. He’s also attached to the Asteroids film that we’ve heard little about lately. But I’m sure that’s because they’re just taking their time to make it so good!

Norman Bridwell’s Clifford the Big Red Dog books first were published in 1963, and were previously a well-loved PBS series featuring the voice of John Ritter.

The Cat in the Hat in the Reboot

[adrotate banner=”1″]Time to hide behind the couch again, because The Cat in the Hat is returning to theaters, this time in CGI form! Yes, a reboot of a big bankable creation from Dr. Seuss was inevitable thanks to the fact the Lorax made a bunch of cash despite being a giant slap to the face of the message behind the Lorax. Luckily, The Cat in the Hat has far less lessons to ignore for a bland CGI flick, though there is the ever-present threat that Mike Meyers will return to voice the Cat. That’s assuming I don’t drown him in hairballs first and leave his corpse floating in the Baltic Sea. Uh…not that I would do that, nor set up an elaborate ruse involving a fake film production just to lure him out there.

Expect Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson to voice Thing 1 and Thing 2 in my imaginary awful version, where Thing 1 falls in love with a baby Little Cat Z.

Woody Woodpecker laughing his way to the big screen

[adrotate banner=”1″]Walter Lantz’s Woody Woodpecker will be hitting the big screen, in an updated “modernized” version of the character. Expect him to rap and ride a skateboard, Poochie style! Though it probably won’t be that bad. Maybe. Hopefully. Universal’s animation arm, Illumination, will be doing the animating (thus making it likely CGI.) They did the work on Despicable Me and The Lorax. John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky – two writers of Blades of Glory – are in talks to script. Hopefully this leads to a Chilly Willy film! The world needs more animated penguin films…
