Sleepy Hollow raises the bar this season with a disturbingly great episode that features some frank depictions of mental illness and suicide, in addition to having demons and ghosts running around. Somehow the balancing act works just fine, and the added heart-string tugs of Abbie and Jenny’s mom being one of the ghosts leads to some great bonding and background information about the Mills sisters.
What we do know of Abbie and Jenny’s mom before this episode wasn’t much. We know she has issues and was eventually committed to an asylum (the responding officer has become the new Sheriff), and Abbie and Jenny were then dumped into the foster system, leading to their rift. We know she had died, I can’t remember if it was specifically stated that she killed herself, but I think so. And because of all the strange and spooky stuff that has happened on the series, it is understood if not specifically stated that she might have been less crazy than it seemed. That turns out to be true, and we get to see a whole lot more of Lori Mills, including interactions with her daughters as they grew up as well as the spectral version running around the asylum.
My favorite part of this episode is them instantly recognizing what this random jumble means!
Patient bodies are piling up at Tarrytown, the psychiatric hospital that Frank Irving is currently staying at and Jenny Mills and Lori Mills are former patients of. Three bodies in three days, all of which are suicides. Abbie is specifically assigned by Sheriff Reyes because of her knowledge of dealing with weird events, as demonstrated by the doomsday cult she helped bring in. Her family connection to the place is also a plus, and it means Jenny will be along to help, as she’s familiar with the location.
Ichabod is MIA because he has a cold, which leads to some cute character moments and him mentioning that he fought at Saratoga while having dysentery. But he’s no match for being sneakily drugged by Nick Hawley, who tags along. A view of the video of the latest suicide shows the room wasn’t empty when he died, there was someone in the corner. Thanks to the magic of the cameras having a night view mode (Enhance! ENHANCE!) we see the ghost of Lori Mills chanting in the corner!

Killing Daddy never felt so good, on Lifetime!
Gee, which one could possibly be the evil one?
Revenge is a dish best served crazy with Lifetime’s latest original movie, Killing Daddy! A daughter is out to destroy her family after blaming her dad for her mom’s suicide, but family secrets and revenge make a perfect cocktail of Lifetime movie fun. Just from the sample pictures of Cassie Ross dressed up all dark and evil looking, or made up to look like a psych ward patient, you can expect a fun ride!
Cassie Ross is scarred by the suicide of her mother, which occurred when Cassie was a child. She is convinced that her father was to blame for her mother’s death. Cassie’s older sister, Laura, has always sided with their father, so for years Cassie has been estranged from her family. When Cassie discovers that her father has had a debilitating stroke, she sees it as the perfect opportunity to return home and seek justice for her mother. Confiding in her mute and helpless father her plans to destroy her sister and stepmother and ultimately kill him, Cassie sets out on her path to destroy her broken family and take all of their riches. But Cassie’s revenge won’t come as easy as she thinks as hidden truths about her family may derail her entire plan.
Killing Daddy stars Elizabeth Gillies, Cynthia Stevenson, and William Moses. Director Curtis Crawford is a Lifetime vet having helmed four similarly titled films: The Boy She Met Online, The Wife He Met Online, The Husband She Met Online, and The Girl He Met Online. He also worked on the Teddy Ruxpin cartoon. Writer Trent Haaga wrote Heebie Jeebies.

Lifetime Channel owns January – Flowers in the Attic, Lizzie Borden, and Tiger Eyes!
Lifetime is on a spree of interesting new made for tv movies, including two high profile January events, and one that’s not as high profile just because the other two are so much bigger.
January 11th will give us Tiger Eyes – yes, based on the book by Judy Blume! Don’t tell me you didn’t read it as a kid. Tiger Eyes stars Willa Holland, Amy Jo Johnson, and Cynthia Stevenson .
17-year-old Davey’s life has been ripped apart by the sudden loss of her father. Uprooted by her mother to the strange “atom bomb” town of Los Alamos, New Mexico, she meets the mysterious Wolf and sets out on a journey from heartbreak and confusion to life and love after tragedy. Based on the classic novel, “Tiger Eyes” by Judy Blume.
In addition to some live-action Judy Blume, don’t forget January 18th brings us Flowers in the Attic! We posted a trailer in our last Lifetime update.
Based on V.C. Andrews’ controversial book that quickly became a cult classic, the Lifetime Original Movie “Flowers in the Attic” weaves the twisted story of the Dollanganger kids who, after the unexpected death of their father, are convinced by their mother Corrine (Heather Graham) to stay hidden in the attic of their wealthy grandparents’ mansion so she can reclaim the family fortune. Then break out your grinding stones, because January 25th is the premiere of Lizzie Borden Took an Axe! Christina Ricci plays the titular character.

But, in fact, it was Lizzie Borden — one of the most legendary figures in American history — who first whetted the public’s voracious interest in scandalous crimes in the 1800s with her own gruesome story involving the brutal murder of her parents. Starring Golden Globe® and Emmy® Award nominee Christina Ricci (Monster), Golden Globe® Nominee Billy Campbell (The Killing) and Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Clea DuVall (Argo), the Lifetime Original Movie Lizzie Borden Took An Ax premieres January 25, 2014, at 8pm ET/PT.
January is the Month of Lifetime, and since SyFy can’t get their act together to premiere more cool creature features, Lifetime is now the biggest network in original movies.
