The last Lifetime Original Movie of 2015 turned out to be one of the best! Stalked By My Doctor takes the standard creepy stalker narrative and gives us Eric Roberts as the stalk doc, and he knocks it out of the freaking park! Sometimes Roberts is wasted by directors who don’t know what to do with him, but the man loves to work and he is fantastic at playing unhinged characters, and delivers a performance to remember as Dr. Albert Beck. Dr. Beck is one of the most talented and famous heart surgeons in the world, but he can’t get women to give him a second date. Or even finish the first date, as he usually creeps them out by demanding marriage and them quitting their jobs so they can raise his kids in a foreign country. Dr. Beck doesn’t take rejection lightly, throwing fits of various degrees that usually result in damage to trash in alleyways, but occasionally cause huge scenes in restaurants where dozens of people witness him screaming at his latest date as she tries to escape.

The breakdown scenes with Dr. Beck unleashing his frustration as to why no one will love him are amazing. He’s convinced he’s a doctor, he’s a catch, he’s worthy of love, but is unable to see how he presents himself to the women, so he blames them for his struggles. He’s delusional, and the fantasies begin to creep into his reality, causing him to lose track of time. Despite this, he’s very good at keeping his cover of being an eminent heart surgeon and a respectable doctor. Things change when his latest obsession appears, brought into the ER one fateful night…

Sophie Green (Brianna Chomer is your typical high school senior, complete with a jock boyfriend, ethnic best friend, and admission to her number one college choice. But her idiot boyfriend, Ryan (Carson Boatman), has a hobby of texting while driving. This has already lead to a fender bender, and now it leads to a serious auto accident where both of them are ambulanced to the hospital. Ryan has a broken leg (and goodbye football scholarship!), while Sophie has a rip jamming her heart and needs surgery, fast. Dr. Beck is there to save the day, and to become enamored with Sophie. Bloody women with major medical problems are such a turn on for creepsters!

Dr. Beck saves her life with his deft surgery skills, but he also has deft kissing her while she’s still unconscious due to medications post-surgery skills, making things very creepy very quickly. Dr. Beck also does things like demanding to rub ointment on her surgery scars despite the nurses having already done that and without anyone else in the room. That’s enough to give Sophie’s Mom, Adrienne (Deborah Zoe), some suspicions, but she’s laughed off. Later, she is concerned at how Dr. Beck is looking at her daughter. Sophie doesn’t see anything wrong, and even gives Dr. Beck a gift for saving her life. He thinks it is a sign she wants a relationship, and begins following her around town, “accidentally” bumping into her when she is out with her friend, and clumsily asking her to the movies. Sophie is weirded out by this enough she thinks something is wrong. However, her dad talks down to both her and her mom, and rightly gets chewed out by Adrienne for supporting accepting sexual harassment just because the person doing it is a talented individual. Dr. Beck tries to cast the obsession back on Sophie, but things are bad enough Adrienne is switching doctors for Sophie.

Dr. Beck isn’t deterred, and sets his sights on eliminating all obstacles in his way. Sophie and her boyfriend Ryan look to be getting more serious, so he steals Ryan’s phone and sends damaging texts insulting Sophie’s scars. Ryan blames Dr. Beck for this and the eventual break up, but has no proof and tries to assault Dr. Beck regardless. As he’s still crippled, Beck bests him easily and threatens to call the cops if he tries anything again. Dr. Beck then turns the focus on Sophie’s parents, his delusional version of Sophie declaring that she loves him and is forced by her mom to be apart.

Dr. Beck ups the ante every step of the way, while still looking respectable to his work colleagues. He’s someone who they can’t fight against by filing complaints, his prestige is too great, so they don’t even bother. That is how some high-profile people get away with this stuff again and again (cough cough Bill Cosby cough cough), and while the film doesn’t focus on that aspect, I was heartened at Adrienne’s skewering of her husband’s “boys will be boys” type excuses. The husband is practically useless in this film, he’s almost always wrong about everything, almost enough you should ask him for lotto numbers just to pick the numbers he doesn’t and win the jackpot.

Things wrap up to a satisfying conclusion, complete with plenty of twists and turns that made sure that this Lifetime entry didn’t coast on its laurels, but worked to the end to deliver at 100%. Having Doug Campbell as the writer and director helps, as he is a Lifetime MVP. He’s directed every entry of the ______ at 17 series, Death Clique, Sugar Daddies, and written other classics. This isn’t Brianna Chomer’s first film with Eric Roberts, she also appeared in Sorority Slaughterhouse with him (Roberts has been in so many films lately, it would be a surprise if he wasn’t costarring with someone who has been in something with him already).

Stalked By My Doctor delivers a great performance, numerous Lifetime moments, and doesn’t let up until the last scene. It is a must watch, for fans of Lifetime films, for fans of Eric Roberts, for fans of crazy stalker movies, and for fans of cheese in general.
