A Vampire Academy sequel will happen if YOU open your wallet!

[adrotate banner=”1″]Do you like throwing your money at YA franchises that failed to make it at the box office? Well, Vampire Academy has an offer for you! Despite Vampire Academy not setting the box office afire (or even creating sparks!), Vampire Academy is following in the YA franchise tradition of going ahead with an ill-advised sequel that will lose money. But there’s a twist! The twist is YOU will make up the difference, thus the rich producers will not lose any money, and the Real Fans will feel more involved. It’s win-win, unless you are an innocent bystander, like I am.

As the Facebook Announcement says:

We are excited to announce that we have raised the majority of our funds for FROSTBITE – but there is one small catch (we told you this wouldn’t be easy)…We need proof that the fans truly want to see the franchise continue. And so, we will be launching a crowd funding campaign and putting the power in your hands. More details to come later this week.

So, ‪#‎VAFamily‬ – Are you ready to make history? ‪#‎Frostbite2015‬

No word on if everyone will be back, but I’m thinking thanks to the magic of contractual obligations you can expect everyone. Will this go down the road of the bomb Percy Jackson 2, or the upcoming Mortal Instruments sequel that was delayed because of how bad Mortal Instruments: City of Bones did? We shall see…

Until then, start saving your pennies, because you need to throw money at this failed franchise instead of throwing money at all those other projects posted by actual independent struggling artists!

How about “They suck at sequels!”?

  1. Where’s the Kickstarter to prevent this from happening? Like, for $50 someone goes and kicks Gabriel Byrne in the kneecap or something. That’d be great.

    • I’ve called for an anti-Kickstarter for years, unfortunately raising money to hire hitmen is illegal for some strange reason. Keep your laws off my crowdfunding, government!

  2. Have you even read the series?? This is the best series ever written… If the fans love the series enough to see their favorite series come to life and are ready to fund it. I don’t see how it’ll hurt others or you?

Our #VAfamily KNOWS how awesome VA is, and we WILL try our best to see it come alive on screen..

Sorry if it sounded rude but we don’t like it when people just judge the most awesome series based on just one movie..

  3. are you on drogs or something? your article is stupid and doesn’t make sense.. you don’t know anything about this fandom… why don’t you just shup up? it would be better for you 😉 you’re embarrassing yourself.

  4. I know people who didn’t go see it in theaters, but saw it when it came out on DVD and LOVED it. They are willing to back to it. I for one can’t wait to back this movie. We need to get rid of the people who did the advertising for the first movie, because that sucked big time. I actually loved Vampire Academy and watched it in theaters. With other people. We loved it. So until you know how others feel, stop thinking others hate it please and thank you.

  5. Nobody is forcing you to help the kickstarter. Nobody is forcing you to acknowledge the whole thing. And instead of talking about something you clearly dislike, why don’t you write about what you love? This is important to us. So let US worry about “throwing money” at something we love.

    • Yes, exactly. Thank you, Jane. It’s our money, why do you care what we do with it? VA is something that WE are passionate about. What is the point of wasting your time by writing an article about something you don’t like, just to make fun of people who do? VA’s problem was the advertising and that nobody gave it a chance. Frostbite will do better. You think YOU are so impressive, writing on this tiny little website that nobody’s even heard of until you started talking shit about a story that enough people love to start sending you hate mail in your comments? Go crawl back into the hole you came out of and enjoy your movies made by ‘actual independent struggling artists’ that even less people go to see.

  6. This is so stupid. They are not telling us to do anything. A lot of people in this fandom, are offering up their help because it is what they love. I am part of that Fandom. We are all a family. What you also don’t get is that what these producers have done is put the future of this series in our, the fandoms, hands. How many other movie, book or tv series do that? We are the ones to choose wether this happens or not. This VAfamily chooses. And it’s not like they are asking you to put money into a film you do not want to see made. You don’t have to do anything. The fandom chooses. The family chooses. No one is sitting here wondering why you put so much time into something you like. We’re all just wondering why your slamming a fandom that has nothing to do with you. This is our fandom and if we want to donate to a movie we would all die to see so dam be it. That’s not your problem it’s ours.

  7. As mentioned above, how does it harm you or anyone else if fans of the Vampire Academy fandom decide to assist funding for the second book-to-movie adaptation? Sure, when you reach a commercial break on television you may be “forced to watch” the movie trailer. Big deal, there are plenty advertisements on TV that I’d rather not sit through; however, I have the ability to change the channel momentarily or walk out of the room. Also, as Jane brought up, no one is forcing you to acknowledge nor assist/fund the kickstarter or interest in Vampire Academy: Frostbite.
[Many of the fans believed] part of the problem with the first film was result of horrible marketing and post-filming edits causing the hideous downfall for the film. Not to mention, at the time of its release, the US [for certain] was plagued by winter storms – resulting in a variety of those who originally wished to see the film were unable to and by the time [road] conditions were decent enough, most theaters were already disposing of the film due to it’s “unpopularity.”

“Vampire Academy is following in the YA franchise tradition of going ahead with an ill-advised sequel that will lose money.”
Who is to say the sequel WILL lose money? There is an array of new, more exciting events to come with the creation of the second movie – just as in the books. The first book (Vampire Academy) basically was a complete exposition to lead into the full series; from there, the second book (Frostbite) takes on a more complex timeline of events. Events that were only beginning to be introduced at the end of the first book leading into the second.

Seen in expanse of movies with the first [installment of the] film failing miserably, there are plenty who have been able to return to the screen with the sequel – with or without the support of the fandom – and obtain great success. Keep in mind, if the second movie falls short of expectations then many may/will believe that it’s best to drop the project knowing even the second film was a fluke.

You have full rights to your own opinion, so I will not argue your viewpoint on the situation. Neither of us are right or wrong. If I have the ‘right’ to be ‘wrong.’ Then don’t you have the ‘wrong’ to be right?’ Vice versa.

  8. This is ridiculous!!! Some people need to learn the meanie of .. ‘If u dont like something then dont ruin it for the people who DO like it!!’ .. All of these people who are saying that frostbite is going to fail need to shut up and stop ruining it for everyone else!!! If u dont like it then dont watch it!!!!!
I for one LOVED the first movie and cant wait for the second!! I sincerely hope that they make frostbite and all the other books on the Vampire Academy series. The books are AMAZING and so is the next series Bloodlines.
I say for all these hater out there … Why dont you actually READ the books BEFORE you start judging! Maybe you will find out that u do like them.. But if not, then why not leave it alone and let the people who do like/love the books and movie enjoy it!!

  9. I LOVE Vampire Academy and are more then happy too contribute too Frostbite! If you didn’t like VA I don’t understand why you invest time and energy back-talking it? #VAfamily and every fan around the world will do what we can too make Frostbite and all the other books come to life! One day when you discover how amazing this series is you just might thank us! 😉 #VAfamily #Frostbite2015

  10. If people want to help fund this sequel let them. It’s not your money. I was very happy with VA. Unfortunately right now supernatural/vampire teen lit is not what is ‘in’ it’s more the dystopian hunger games type of things that are tearing up the market. If this had come right on the heels of Twilight I’m sure it would have done better.

Point in case- if you don’t like it, don’t get involved, and just enjoy what you enjoy. The fans of Vampire Academy will!!!

  11. You don’t have the right to judge the movie like this… Have you even read the series? Nobody is forcing you to do anything. So just shut up and leave VA alone. Us fans will support it because we LOVE it. Try to write about something that matters most to you not how you hated the movie beacause whatever you say,its our decision to make.Sorry for being rude but #VAfamily knows how much this movie means to all of us fans .

  12. Have you ever read the series? I’m sorry but the franchise has not failed! It a. wasn’t advertised properly. b. wasn’t shown to half the world/fans (America isn’t the be all and end all you know). The first film in any franchise usually isn’t brilliant look at Twilight… the first film was rubbish! Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone film wasn’t amazing (due to budget and timing)but look where they went!!! This film was good and I can’t wait to see Frostbite. It’s no about opening up our purse strings it’s about the fans wanting to see the book series they love come to the screen. Don’t like it? Get screwed! Don’t judge a series on the first attempt, you do and you are not worth any account one ounce. As a Hufflepuff one of my sayings is ‘Haters gona hate’ and another is ‘Don’t have anything nice to say? Don’t say anything at all.’ I suggest you follow these out of the VA franchise’s life and stay gone.

  13. We do it because we love VA,and we wanna see that happen. It doesn’t have to be a lot of money,if everyone donate a little bit 🙂 It’s not a waste of money if it brings you joy 🙂

  14. I hate when people think that just because vampire academy has the word vampire in it its just like twilight no if u actually read the series it is even better than twilight I hate how people who never read the book diss on the movie I am happy to see my favorite series come to life and that all happens because of the Walters brothers

  15. So I’m not trying to sound rude because this is your opinion but I’m wondering how in any way this will effect you? The book series were amazing and the movie was quite good… it wasn’t great because it was the first in a series but with more movies the effects will get better and they will fix the mistakes they made in the first one. I mean you must have lost your mind if you really think fans will do nothing to make another movie. Have you ever even seen the movie? Because it wasn’t even bad.

Also I have no idea where you got the idea of Percy Jackson and the lightning thief making no money because it made more than $226 mil. So even though compared to the books the movie was bad compared to the books why would they not make a sequel to it?

The main reason movies don’t go well in the box office is bad advertising. Both City of Bones and Vampire Academy had bad advertising but they were great movies. So maybe you shouldn’t get so upset that they want to make a sequel. They’re not asking for YOUR money so why do you have to go out of your way to stop the film being made?

  16. Well this movie is aimed at teenagers and has a lot of friendship moments plus a lot of cute love scenes as well as some action. Obviously it’s not something someone like you should review seeing as most of your positive reviews go to porn movies with bad acting and bad lighting.

  17. If you don’t like it, oh well, too bad for you. This is what we want and we’ll do whatever we like to get this movie. They were amazing books and I believe in the movies, it isn’t hurting you any so why say anything about it at all? #becauseweareaVAfamily

  18. Do get me wrong I love this series and would love to see another one, but it’s not worth it if the fans who work for a living has to dish out their own hard earned money just to make this happen. I refuse to donate to support a movie or show as a cause and it’s not right to ask fans to do it. Glad the ones that do got mommy and daddy supporting them so they can donate to whatever they like, me unlike most of you I have bills I need to pay and can’t afford to go out and spend money like it’s nothing. More power to the idiots that donate for a movie then important things in life. Go donate you money just so they can tell you it wasn’t enough to support the movie.

    • Geez, why are so angry? Fans funded the Veronica Mars, and it was awesome. Fine, you have bills to pay, so do I and I will be funded the hell out Frostbite, I wanna see it. Yeah, of course there’s always more important things than movies, there’s more important things than reading to, but you read the series didn’t you? Heaven forbid anyone have a little fun. It’s apparently a crime to splurge a little. Calm down, it’s not that serious. If people want to spend money on it, they’re not idiots they’re fans.

  19. I don’t understand how innocent bystanders will be affected. You are not required to donate nor are you required to watch it. Everyone has opinions on what movies should be made. I have my own about some horror movies. Let’s us worry about our own wallets and you worry about yours.

  20. That’s stupid! And so what if they are making us pay! You don’t have to lose one penny if you don’t want to support them. I love the VA series and will try to get Frostbite but you DONT have to. Stop complaining about something you don’t have to do!

  21. What’s the harm in funding something that we believe in? It isn’t going to affect you, we aren’t forcing you to read the series, (even though it is astoundingly wonderful)we aren’t making you watch the movies, or even like us. We are merely a family who loves something and have decided to back it in anyway we can. Is that so wrong? Everyone says that teamwork is what makes the human race strong and here is an excellent example of it! We are just one big #VAfamily gathering behind a project we love and believe in. Please leave your negative comments at home, no one needs to read/hear them.

  22. 1- Any and all sequels to the Vampire Academy film should be funded by the producers and not the fans. It is unfair to the fans to place the burden of sequels upon them, especially since they will not reap any of the rewards if the film becomes a hit. As Mark Waters and Daniel Waters were not shy about putting their names all over the trailers like they wrote the books or something, maybe they can max out their credit cards instead of relying on others.

2- It’s sort of funny this blew up on the same weekend the Zach Braff film Wish I Was Here is released at the box office, itself a film from an established star/director that went the crowdfunding route, only to immediately sell out for funding that none of the original backers saw a penny of.

3- I have not read the books, the film is on our to-watch list, but that list is large at the moment. City of Bones was just plain terrible, and VA looks better.

4- Thanks for stopping by, #VAfamily! Enjoy all the free drogs I got here in my hole at this tiny little website! I will say you VAers are far better spellers than the Bratz fans. If the sequel goes ahead, we shall be sure to cover it!

    • Have you ever loved something so much that you will do anything to see it get success?? That’s how much we Love VA. We don’t WANT any part of the profits if it gets success. Seeing it come to life on screen is more than enough for us. It’s really close to our hearts and trust me, you should read this too.. Who knows, you will also love it.. The first book/movie is just about setting up a background.. Things start happening from the second.. I bet if you read the 3rd & 4th book of this series, you won’t be able to help yourself.. You will love it too.. 🙂

As for the spelling mistakes, you must understand that our #VAfamily is an international fandom. There are many people who probably doesn’t even speak english. VA fandom is from all over the world, like Philippines, Cyprus, India, UK, Singapore, Brazil, Australia, Belgium, Romania etc. not just US..

If you want to cover the sequel, Sure go ahead.. I just hope that you will read the WHOLE series by then, and will be a member of our #VAfamily.. 🙂

      Good Luck

    • 1- Yes, it would be helpful if the movie was funded by the producers, but hey, we don’t mind helping out. If we did, then we wouldn’t be getting this movie, now would we. And actually, we will be reaping numerous benefits. We are funding this movie and letting its weight rest upon our shoulders because we want to see it made. That is a boon for all us VAers. We want people to know that yeah, we made this happen because we believed when others, such as yourself, told us we shouldn’t. That’s all the reward we need for our time, money, and effort.

2- And I am sure those fans were thrilled that the movie they strove to make possible became something they could watch.

3- Exactly, this is merely words on a list to you. You’ve never read the books, experienced what we have felt towards this series. You have no need to make such negative comments.

4- I’m glad you are aware that we have the power to make this sequel possible and we sure will, also, it is rude to mock others for their spelling. Who gives you the right to judge them when you are sitting behind your computer screen mocking something you know nothing about. Plus, our #VAfamily is from all over the world, contrary to belief, the USA is not the center of the universe. We are a multi-continental fandom and proud of it.

5- Now, I understand that I am probably giving you the satisfaction of responding to your incorrect posts, but there are points that need to be laid out carefully to those who don’t understand. We will fight for this movie because it is our right. We don’t care what you or anyone else has to say about how “bad” our movie/series is. We understand there were mistakes, but with a second movie those can be fixed. The first movie was our exposition, our starting place; with a second movie on its way then we have a chance to show everyone just how strong our #VAfamily is and how much we believed in our beloved Vampire Academy.

      Thank you.
