Erotibot

aka Karei naru erogami-ke no ichizoku: Shinsô reijô wa denki shitsuji no yume o miru ka aka The Great Ero-gami Family – Do Sheltered Young Ladies Dream of Electric Butlers? aka 華麗なるエロ神家の一族

2011
Directed by Naoyuki Tomomatsu

Erotibot is the story of a girl and her robots, and also a cautionary tale of why you should never share an inheritance.

Erotibot is one of the scores of direct to video junk Japan films each year. It probably wouldn’t even leave the land of the rising sun were it not for the presence of Asami Sugiura and Maria Ozawa in the cast. As Asami Suguira gained fame in the West after appearing in many of the Noboru Iguchi ultragore films, and Maria Ozawa is one of the most downloaded AV stars, overseas sales are assured.

Despite the “star” power, Erotibot isn’t really a star vehicle for either of them. It also doesn’t fit well into the genre Asami Sugiura is known for. And while Maria Ozawa is well known for being a most prolific star of pornography ranging for normal to beyond frakked up, her more serious acting turns are not that well known. Besides appearing in the most recent batch of Kekko Kamen flicks, she’s also popped up in a horror movie or three. But that’s about it. Erotibot is not exactly a feather for her cap, if you know what I mean. It’s interesting (sort of), but it isn’t good.

Sukekiyo (???) – Sukekiyo is your average goofy robot butler who daydreams about his mistress loving him. Is fiercely loyal to Tamayo. The only waterproof robot. Android 0.3.
Suketomo (???) – Suketomo is the perfect robot butler who does everything right and shows up Sukekiyo at every chance he can get, including banging Tamayo. But he gets reprogrammed and goes evil. Just like your Macbook Pro will next week! Android 0.1.
Suketake (???) – A silent robot with beastlike strength and a crazy head. The least developed of the three robots. Android 0.2.
Tamayo (Mahiro Aine) – Tamayo is the illegitimate daughter of a rich businessman who keeps her isolated from the rest of society and is given robot servants. This has made her curious about sex, which the internet cannot answer. She must have the parental controls still active or something…. Mahiro Aine enjoys playing piano, eating strawberry shortcake, and having sex on film for money.
Tsukiyo (Maria Ozawa) – The legitimate granddaughter of the rich businessman who is upset that she won’t be getting any money. So it’s time for murder. MURDER!!!! Also murder. A crazed psychopath who likes handsome guys. Maria Ozawa exploded onto the AV world several years ago and became one of the most obsessed over stars.
Azami (Asami Sugiura) – The imaginatively-named sidekick to Tsukiyo who accompanies her on her quest to claim the inheritance. Asami is the former AV star who has appeared in many spaltter films and gained a cult following in the US. She’s been on TarsTarkas.NET in The Machine Girl, RoboGeisha, Mutant Girls Squad, Gothic & Lolita Psycho, and Horny House of Horror

Erotibot opens with the standoff already in progress, Tsukiyo and Azami make short work of Sukekiyo, arterial sprays go everywhere, this time in milky white android blood color. He’s left for dead as Tamayo is dragged away.

So let’s get some backstory on this mofo! Tamayo is the illegitimate daughter of Sahei Nekogami, a prominent businessman. She is the daughter of his true love, though Sahei Nekogami has an arraigned marriage and a family by that arrangement, who hate Tamayo with a passion. Tamayo is unaware of this, as her days are spent being pampered by her robot servants, Suketomo, Suketake, and Sukekiyo. Her 18th birthday is a day like most others, spend playing badminton with Sukekiyo. As Sukekiyo is a screw up low-grade model, he sucks at sports, and is shown up when Suketomo comes over to show off his badminton skills. Sukekiyo has romantic feelings for Tamayo, and also saves a birdhouse from falling, protecting the eggs inside. He’s one of those nice guys, on the fast lane to finishing last.

Meanwhile at Nekogami Head Family Castle, we find out Mr. Sahei hired Dr. Philip K. Dick to make the androids. So Mr. Sahei’s evil granddaughter Tsukiyo hires a detective named Hajime Kaneda, twilight detective, whose name is some sort of pun on Hajime Kindaich, to spy on Tamayo. Hajime Kaneda finds out the will leaves everything to Tamayo. This enrages Tsukiyo, because she’s evil, you see. Have I mentioned she’s evil yet?

Sukekiyo is waterproof, thus he can bath Tamayo. Tamayo demands to see him naked, and forces him via orders. That night, Sukekiyo goes to find a convenience store to get her some cup of ramen, as she declared an interest in the food despite Suketomo deriding it as low-class. While he is gone, Suketomo activates his programming for boning Tamayo. He gets annoyed when she’s not embarrassed, commanding her to be. That’s exactly how your first time should be, a yelling robot. Sukekiyo returns just in time for it to be all over

The dastardly Nekogami gamily gets busy hacking into the computer brains of the robot servants. They manage to infiltrate Suketomo and Suketake, but not Sukekiyo. They then set out to have the two corrupted robots try to kill Tamayo, first by poison, and then Tsukiyo and her servant Azami jump out and declare Tamayo has no place in society. They order Suketomo and Suketake to capture her and to destroy Sukekiyo.

Sukekiyo breaks off Suketake’s antenna so he goes out of control, attacking Tsukiyo and Azami. Suketomo fights Sukekiyo, and Suketomo is far superior in fighting skills. But remember he isn’t waterproof. So a dip in the pool makes him a fool. A robot fool.

Sukekiyo escapes with Tamayo and hide out in the woods eating discarded ramen, while Tsukiyo and Azami repair Suketake enough that they can have sex with him while chanting about how handsome is better.

After using the droid to service their feminine lust, the two track down Sukekiyo and Tamayo in the woods. We know what happens next because it was used for the opening segment, so now Tamayo id kidnapped and Sukekiyo is chopped into pieces.

But…the detective is a double agent! He secretly works for Tamayo’s father, and then goes on a speech. During this speech, he mentions Japan won’t use atomic power because of Hiroshima, which was sort of an odd thing to see in a film when I watched this shortly after the Japanese earthquake/tsumani and the post-quake nuclear plant meltdown.

Detective puts Sukekiyo’s head on Suketake’s body! He can then fight the two evil girls and rescue Tamayo (who is to be tortured until she signs away all rights to the inheritance, because killing her is just too complicated?) This leads to the blood-soaked ending where we finally get the gore hinted at for most of the film. Even though Tsukiyo’s death is pretty fun (SPOILER!), it is once again a case of too little, too late.

Erotibot tries to be a lot of things: erotic movie, science fiction, a comedy, a gore film. But it ends up mastering none of those. The erotic moments are creepy and rapey, the science fiction is just “robots!”, the humor is rare and partially centered on Japanese puns, and the gore is restricted. If you’re getting it for one sole reason, you’re going to be disappointed. If you’re getting it for several reasons, you’ll be more entertained. It’s not a waste of your time, but it’s not a must see. But if you’re into this sort of thing, it may be worth your while. Where else are you going to see a painting yell at people as the exciting climax?

Rated 4/10 (diagram, surprise, random cat, non-robot robot)

    • It seems like it would be the kind of film that’d be awesome, but it fails to live up to the hype. So disappointing. But I never learn lessons, so bring on the next weird Japanese film!

  1. This movie is so awesome …the robotic tongue action blew my mind and to this day still Haunts me. All of the props and setts were so unbelievably cheesy but so well done at the same time i couldn’t take my eyes off of it. Worse then a train wreck, more like an aircraft Carrier hitting a bridge. Amazing piece of film
