Godzilla Island – Story Arc 15

Godzilla Island – Story Arc 15

1997

Directed by Shun Mizutani

Some other girl is in the opening credits!?!?! Who the frak is she? Good job adding new actresses each story, I’ll just pretend I can keep up with the new characters. So Mothra is featured in these episodes, so if you like Mothra, you are in luck. If you are sick of Mothra, then you are in trouble. We got double Mothras, Battra, and even the Mothra song. All we are missing are two tiny twins, but two female characters on the good guy side will have to do for now. New visitors, get started at Godzilla Island Story Arc 1 to begin the journey here. The rest of you, buckle up as March of Godzilla Island continues!

G-Guard Commander (Jiro Dan) – G-Guard Commander runs the Godzilla Guard unit on Godzilla Island. He’s all alone except for sassy robot Lucas, so of course he’s bored out of his skull normally. He seems to have been stationed there because it’s a low-priority assignment they could dump someone who can’t work under pressure, because that’s exactly what he is. Luckily Torema shows up to save his pants. I do not know if he has a name but it may be Oji.
Lucas (Kenichiro Shimamura) – Annoying robot, Godzilla Island-style! Makes sarcastic remarks, and seems to be even mean at times. An annoying Kenny kid in floating metal sphere form. He must be destroyed! Translates from monster language to Japanese.
Misato (Kaori Aso) – The new monster doctor who is dedicated to her craft. Works hard, argues with G-Guard Commander, and flies Medical Jet Jaguar around all the time.
Landes (Kaoru Ukawa) – The new Xilien assigned by Giant Dark Emperor to take over Godzilla Island. She has crazy eyes. Always using a pink fluffy fan. Her ship is another Vabaruda.
Nao (Sho Sawamura) – The latest cast addition to Godzilla Island, and the most mysterious because she came out of nowhere and seems obsessed with food. Who is she? Why does G-Guard Commander seem to know her and get annoyed at her constant talk of food? Will we ever get answers? I sure hope so, because otherwise you have to put up with this explanation for the remainder of the series. I translated Sho Sawamura’s name myself so hopefully it is right.
Camero (???) – Landes’s floating robot, sounds bored when he talks. Just what we needed, another annoying Lucas. Hopefully he can be the entertaining Meowth to the lame Pikachu. Looks suspiciously like MST3K’s Cambot (Last design)!
Narrator – (Yutaka Aoyama) – He’s not a character but the guy who recaps the previous episode in the beginning of the episode. That means thirty seconds of each three minute episode is Narrator recounting events, padding running time beyond levels I want to think about. He’s a typical Japanese male announcer, amazingly excited and epic about even the most mundane things.
Giant Dark Emperor (???) – Giant flaming head who commands the Xiliens and Planet X. Do not look behind the curtain. The great and powerful Giant Emperor commands you, and can hear your sarcastic backtalk! Still, being a flaming head in space has got to be pretty boring.

Different monster feature in each episode, so we’ll keep track of them in each story arc. The complete Godzilla Island Daikaiju List is located here. We’ll also list any new monster match-ups that weren’t in any film but now exist thanks to this series, such as Dororin fighting Megalon or something. The R2 Japanese DVD release is unsubtitled, so most of what is going on will be educated guesses thanks to our limited Japanese speaking ability. But here at TarsTarkas.NET we don’t need no stinking subtitles!

Featuring the monsters –

Anguirus – Godzilla’s first foe and now a close friend. His only power is a spiky back but he’s brave on the battlefield. One of the usual residents on Godzilla Island who shows up to watch the action as stories progress.
Baragon – Big ears, big horn on the nose, likes to dig underground. One of the usual residents on Godzilla Island who shows up to watch the action.
Battra – Evil sister of Mothra who now works for Zaguresu. I guess it’s hard to make a decent living when you are an evil monster, as there are only a few employment opportunities.
Destoroyah – He killed Godzilla and all he gets is a villain slot on a kids TV show. And beat up on said show. That will learn him! Try as I might I will never like him.
Godzilla – The King of Monsters. Godzilla is pure awesome in giant fire-breathing lizard form. Everyone who comes to Godzilla Island wants a piece of Godzilla. And they all get kicked to the curb.
Godzilla Junior – Godzilla’s lamest son is here also. Looks likes some sort of lizard squirrel or something. Give me Minya! I’ll even take nephew Godzooky!
Gorosaurus – Old foe of King Kong who spends most of his days watching whatever happens on Godzilla Island. His special move was to do kangaroo kicks.
King Caesar – King Caesar is King of Zen as well. He’s a Samurai Lion who will kick your behind! He is some sort of Taoist/Shinto priest or something in addition to being a giant monster.
Mechagodzilla – This is the second Mechagodzilla, which was created by humans to fight Godzilla. Now stationed on Godzilla Island as one of its defenders. Usually automated, but can be piloted at times (and has been by G-Guard Commander.) Usually paired with Moguera.
Medical Jet Jaguar – Jet Jaguar got his medical degree from Daikaiju University. Now he helps the sick and injured monsters on Godzilla Island. That name suits him!
Megalon – Drills for hands, the former guardian of Seatopia now works for Zaguresu because he hasn’t been beat up by Godzilla or Jet Jaguar enough yet.
Moguera – The Mobile Operation Godzilla Universal Expert Robot Aero-Type, or MOGUERA, was also built to fight Godzilla, and is also stationed on Godzilla Island to defend it now. In one episode we see Torema pilots Moguera, but other episodes it is unclear who is in control. Moguera can separate into Star Falcon and Land Moguera pieces in the movies, but doesn’t here.
Mothra (Moth) – The Classic Moth form of Mothra. Eventually dies, as all Mothras do, but this is the first one killed by a volcano. Her son is Mothra Leo and daughter is Mothra Larva 2.
Mothra Larva 2 – This Mothra Larva is the sister of Mothra Leo, her egg was hidden by Mothra when Battra attacked. Kidnapped before hatching, Mothra Larva 2 was brainwashed to be evil by Battra until brought ack to the side of good by the Mothra song.
Mothra Leo – a boy Mothra who has extra powers, from the Rebirth of Mothra series. Can zap things with antenna and wing blasts. No one has a good explanation on how male Mothra Leo is supposed to continue the Mothra line. But don’t worry, as an egg magically appears anyway.
Rodan – A prehistoric monster awakened in modern day, Rodan is a former foe of Godzilla who has learned to work with him to fight off the evil monsters. Has some hot springs named after him on Godzilla Island. Will eventually become Fire Rodan, because he did so in the Heisei movie series that was still recent, in addition to giving Bandai another toy.

Episode 149 – Gorath Volcanic Eruption
We open with Lucas and Misato chatting, she shows designs for a new spaceship she is making, when suddenly there’s an earthquake! Because of the volcano! Volcano Quake!!! Run for your life! Tsuzuku, because small children won’t remember volcanoes have erupted before…

Episode 150 – A Mysterious Egg is Discovered!
Everyone is okay, G-Guard Commander and Misato talk, but before Misato goes to check on the kaiju the random new girl from the opening credits walks in, wearing a “The Boston Globe” T-shirt, and holds up a sushi menu. Everyone looks at her like WTF? and Misato just flies out on Medical Jet Jaguar to check out the monsters. Mothra Leo is flying around his cave near the volcano, when suddenly a Mothra egg is revealed! Camero spies the egg as well, and we tsuzuku. How the crap does the male Mothra Leo go about laying an egg? Riddle me that, Batman.

Episode 151 – Mothra’s Egg has Survived
Landes plots about the egg, while G-Guard Commander and Misato discuss how to retrieve the egg. Also the random girl talks a lot about food and gives G-Guard Commander a headache. Still no clue who she is. Tsuzuku.

Episode 152 – Mothra’s Distress
The Mothra egg has been brought to G-Guard HQ, and G-Guard Commander explains to Misato about how Mothra laid two eggs, but Battra attacked so she hid one egg, and the other one became Mothra Leo. This happened in episodes that don’t exist, so don’t bother trying to remember. Nao eats something and then leaves (G-Guard Commander talks to her like he knows her but no further info on her identity), and Misato goes to help the egg. Tsuzuku.

Episode 153 – Unison
Misato puts the Mothra egg in Mothra Cave where Mothra Leo lives, and Mothra Leo snuggles up to it. Landes prepares to unleash Megalon and Destoroyah to get the egg when Giant Dark Emperor calls. The plan will be done. Tsuzuku!

Episode 154 – The Mothra Song
Misato puts the Medical Jet Jaguar speakers backpack on and plays a cd of an adult contemporary remix of the Mothra song from the Mothra movies. The egg begins to glow and all is good, when Landes sends Megalon and Destoroyah to Godzilla Island. Tsuzuku!

Episode 155 – Protect Mothra’s Egg!
Misato has returned to G-Guard HQ when Megalon and Destoroyah attack, tossing Mothra Leo aside and carrying away the egg in a net. Mogeura and Mechagodzilla are sent, but they fail to stop them. Misato goes to leave in Medical Jet Jaguar, and does so despite G-Guard Commander telling her not to get in harm’s way. Godzilla arrives to the scene and starts blasting the baddies for daring to show their ugly mugs on his island. Medical Jet Jaguar is tossed out of the way by Megalon, who then takes off with the egg. Destoroyah decides to leave as well instead of getting blasted by Godzilla several more times. So tsuzuku as they leave. Way to fail to do what the episode title said, guys!

Episode 156 – Years of Resentment
Mothra Leo is sprayed with a healing mist by Misato in Medical Jet Jaguar, as the egg is taken to Matango Island where Battra gets a hold of it. Battra will raise it to be an evil Battra, which is good because I thought he was going to molest it or something. Landes schemes some more. Tsuzuku for scheming and resentment.

Episode 157 – The Commander’s Order
Misato wants to go rescue the egg, but G-Guard Commander vetoes because they can’t just barge in without a plan, and all the attack robots are damaged. Misato leaves the office angry, and she and Lucas talk later watching Godzilla and Junior. Didn’t she watch the earlier episodes, whenever Torema and G-Guard Commander attacked Matango Island they always had a plan. The Mothra egg begins to crack. Tsuzuku.

Episode 158 – Take Off Tart-Coupe!
G-Guard Commander is eating a sandwich and being bothered by Nao when Misato announces she’s leaving for Matango Island to rescue the egg. He yells at her as Nao protests and cries about him being angry at Misato, then Misato debuts her new ship, the Tart-Coupe. Tart-Coupe?!?! What the heck kind of name… Misato takes off as we go all Gerry Anderson all of a sudden. Mothra Larva (2) hatches. Tsuzuku.

Episode 159 – The Larval Mothra is Discovered!
The Tart-Coupe finds Baby Mothra (what we will be calling this new Mothra Larva because it is easier and that’s what they call it in the show), and leads him back to Godzilla Island. Everything seems okay, as Baby Mothra is looked at by Medical Jet Jaguar. But why is Landes laughing and scheming? Because the next morning Medical Jet Jaguar is wrapped in webbing and Baby Mothra is nowhere to be found! She’s gone evil! Tsuzuku!

Episode 160 – Landes’ Scheme
Misato goes looking for Baby Mothra, who is webbing Gorosaurus at Gabara Lake. She also webs King Caesar, Anguirus, Rodan, and Baragon. Busy little bugger. Tsuzuku.

Look out, Gorosaurus!

Episode 161 – Junior is Targeted
G-Guard Commander and Misato discuss the latest predicament, when Nao comes in with sushi for G-Guard Commander. Everything this girl does revolves around food. She lays it on his keyboard, pressing a button causing the screen to show Baby Mothra chasing Godzilla Junior. Misato thanks Nao and runs off, Nao is confused, just like we are in wondering who the heck she is. Godzilla arrives to save his kid by firing his breath at Baby Mothra, but Mothra Leo appears to defend his sister. We got a real Godzilla vs. Mothra Leo fight brewing! Tsuzuku.

Episode 162 – Mothra vs. Godzilla
Godzilla blasts Mothra Leo when he gets in the way, and blasts Baby Mothra when she tries to get his son. Soon Godzilla and Mothra Leo are fighting each other. If only this happened in a movie. Tsuzuku.

Episode 163 – Battra and Baby Mothra
Godzilla and Mothra Leo both KO each other, then Battra shows up, letting G-Guard Commander figure out what happened. Battra takes off with Baby Mothra, and Misato gives chase in the Tart-Coupe. Landes drives the New Vabaruda close by, and gives Misato a threatening message using her crazy eyes. Misato keeps chasing, because she isn’t afraid of crazy. But you should be, Misato, you should be… Tsuzuku.

Episode 164 – Misato vs. Landes
Misato puts up her shields (at this time I’d like to inform you that Misato’s ship’s control keyboard is entirely blank with no markings on any key) and then puts all power to firing a giant blast at Landes’s ship, damaging it and causing Misato to spin out of control. Misato recovers the Tart-Coupe just in time and then sees Battra and Baby Mothra coating G-Guard HQ in webbing. Tsuzuku. This new Xilien ship is pretty weak if the “Tart-Coupe” can damage it!

Episode 165 – The Cruelty of Landes
Mothra Leo returns and blasts Battra. Battra drops Baby Mothra and the two winged kaiju duel. Battra knocks down Mothra Leo, and then blasts both Mothras with eye-beams. Baby Mothra is shocked that her pal is trying to kill her as well, and Mothra Leo steps in front of the blasts, protecting Baby Mothra at his own peril. Then Godzilla arrives and blows Battra out of the sky with some crack-shot breath blasting. Godzilla rules. Tsuzuku.

Episode 166 – Baby Mothra Awakes
Misato plays the Mothra Song (Contemporary Mix) CD for Baby Mothra, who finally remembers who she is. Godzilla and Battra are fighting to a stand-still, until Baby Mothra unleashes an energy blast at Battra, and then covers him with webbing. Landes is upset. She sends Destoroyah and Megalon. I’d be upset as well, because since when can Mothra Larva shoot beams of red lightning? Tsuzuku.

Episode 167 – Mothra’s Counterattack
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah as Megalon blasts both Mothras is how this fight begins. Misato makes Megalon dizzy by flying her ship around him, but runs out of gas while doing so, crashing off-screen. Godzilla deals with Destoroyah, and all three evil kaiju (Battra included) are covered in webbing. The three are blasted for good measure by Godzilla and Mothra Leo, and then the three escape. Landes pouts, and G-Guard Commander tries to contact Misato. Tsuzuku.

Episode 168 – Mothra Returns Home
Misato answers after G-Guard Commander gets worried and thinks she’s dead. The two have a heart to heart where she realizes he doesn’t want her to get hurt, which is why he keeps opposing her (this is a guess.) Everything is A-OK, and Misato and Nao have lunch in Mothra’s cave. Tsuzuku.

What will the next story arc hold? Another new female character? Another baby monster? A hobo? Find out! March of Godzilla Island continues with Story Arc 16 – The Most Random Monster Guest Ever!

New Monster Match-ups – Godzilla vs. Mothra Leo. Mothra Larva vs. Gorosaurus. Mothra Larva vs. King Caesar. Megalon vs. Mothra Leo and Mothra Larva,

Rated 7/10 (Speaker pack, sit and think, get crackin’, Tart-to-Landes, Labeled keyboards are for losers, double-team, pout city)
